Panadol Extra composition
Active ingredients: paracetamol (500 mg), caffeine (65 mg).
Auxiliary components: povidone, sorbitol (E420), sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium bicarbonate, anhydrous citric acid, dimethicone, sodium saccharin, sodium carbonate anhydrous.
Release form
Available in effervescent tablets.
Pharmacological properties
This is a combination medicine used as a pain reliever, cold remedy. Paracetamol blocks the production of prostaglandins in the brain by inhibiting the enzyme COX, acting on the brain centers of pain, temperature regulation. Has antipyretic, moderate analgesic effect. Caffeine has an exciting effect on the central nervous system: it enhances and regulates the processes of excitation in the cortex, vasomotor and respiratory centers, and stimulates mental activity. Caffeine enhances the effect of paracetamol, improves well-being, and eliminates the feeling of fatigue.
Indications

Contraindications:
- with allergies to components;
- with intolerance to excipients;
- with severe liver and / or kidney dysfunction;
- with heart diseases (severe arterial hypertension, severe atherosclerosis, tendency to vasospasm, coronary heart disease, severe arrhythmia);
- when taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors, zidovudine;
- with angle-closure glaucoma;
- children under 12 years old;
- with blood diseases (severe anemia, leukopenia);
- with epilepsy;
- with congenital hyperbilirubinemia (Dubin-Johnson syndrome, Gilbert’s syndrome, Rotor syndrome).
Children
It is used in pediatrics for children from 12 years old.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The drug is not used during these periods.
Method of administration and dosage
Panadol Extra is indicated for oral (oral) administration regardless of food, but not on an empty stomach.
Standard dose: adults, children from 12 years old – one or two tablets every 4-6 hours (no more than 8 tablets per day).
The maximum duration of treatment is seven days.
Overdose
Symptoms: vomiting, pallor, headaches, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, liver damage (including insufficiency), metabolic acidosis, encephalopathy, coma, acute renal failure, cardiac arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, headache, nervousness, tremor, irritability.
In case of overdose, it is recommended to seek emergency medical attention. Apply methionine (oral) or acetylcysteine (intravenous) in the first 48 hours after an overdose. Symptomatic therapy is indicated.
Side effects
Allergic manifestations, itching, dyspeptic disorders (nausea, diarrhea), changes in the blood test (leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia, methemoglobinemia, hemolytic, aplastic anemia), increased blood pressure, sensation of dizziness, headaches, insomnia, arrhythmia, nephrotoxicity (interstitial nephritis, capillary necrosis), tremor, irritability, liver dysfunction.
Storage conditions and periods
Store Panadol Extra in its original packaging at 15–25 ° С for no more than 2 years. Parents must ensure the safety of children by limiting their access to medication.
