Paxeladin composition
The drug is the main active ingredient – oxeladine citrate. The composition also includes auxiliary components, including sucrose.
Release form
This pharmaceutical product is produced in the form of a syrup, poured into bottles of 125 ml, to which a measuring spoon is attached.
Pharmacological properties
This drug is a direct-acting antitussive drug based on oxeladine citrate, which is used to reduce a dry, unproductive cough that irritates the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract. It is used in the treatment of diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract caused by both inflammatory and infectious processes.
Indications
Paxeladin is an antitussive pharmaceutical agent that effectively reduces the intensity of unproductive cough that irritates the mucous membranes of the bronchial tree (trachea and bronchi), regardless of its origin – viral, infectious, allergic or inflammatory, including colds.
This drug is indicated for the treatment of various diseases accompanied by dry cough.
It is used to treat:
- acute and chronic bronchitis;
- acute and chronic tracheobronchitis;
- bronchial asthma;
- whooping cough;
- pneumonia;
- flu.
Also effective for spastic and reflex coughs.
Paxeladin is an antitussive drug that directly affects the cough center of the central nervous system.
The active active ingredient of the drug does not cause a hypnotic effect and, if the recommended dosage is not exceeded, it does not have a depressing effect on the respiratory center. The drug is not an opiate or antihistamine.
In general, this drug has the ability to reduce active cough and normalize breathing.
In general, the action of the drug contributes to the saturation of blood with oxygen and improves respiratory function.

Contraindications
The drug is not prescribed if it is known that the patient suffers from intolerance to one of the components of the drug, including oxeladine citrate, sucrose, galactose, auxiliary components. Care should be taken when prescribing diabetic patients.
It is not prescribed for the treatment of patients who have a productive cough, since its effect will complicate the release of the airways from the secreted bronchial secretions.
Children
The drug in the form of a syrup is not used to treat children with a body weight not exceeding 15 kg. The encapsulated form is not used in pediatrics.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The tablet form of the drug is not used to treat pregnant women throughout pregnancy.
Breastfeeding should be suspended while taking the drug.
Method of administration and dosage
Unless the doctor has prescribed it individually, the following regimen is usually recommended.
The duration of therapy is 3 days, but at the discretion of the doctor, the course of treatment can be extended.
The syrup is not diluted with water, but it can be washed down with a little liquid. Dosage is carried out with a 5 ml measuring spoon, which is included in the kit, or with a teaspoon (1 tsp = 5 ml).
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dosage for Paxeladin syrup is as follows:
- children weighing 15-20 kg – 2.5 ml (1/2 tsp) every 4 hours, no more than 10 ml per day;
- children weighing 20-30 kg – 5 ml of syrup with the same frequency, no more than 15 ml per day;
- children weighing 30-50 kg – 5 ml of syrup with the same frequency, no more than 25 ml per day.
- Do not take for more than 5 days, unless otherwise prescribed by the attending physician.
Overdose
Cases of exceeding the dosage have not yet been observed. In case of accidental excessive intake of the drug, you should rinse the stomach, take enterosorbents, consult a doctor.
Side effects
This drug is usually well tolerated by patients. With the manifestation of allergic reactions, hypersensitivity manifestations in the form of skin rashes are possible.
In rare cases, allergic reactions have been noted in case of hypersensitivity to the drug, which usually manifests itself in the form of skin rashes.
Storage conditions and periods
The drug is stored at a temperature range of 15 to 25 ° C, out of the reach of children in a dark and dry place. Shelf life of syrup is 3 years, capsules – 5 years.
