Description
Pectolvan Stop composition and form of release
The active substances of this drug are guaifenesin, butamirate citrate.
Release form – oral drops.
Pharmacological properties
A combined agent that has mucolytic, antitussive and expectorant effects. The butamirate citrate contained in this preparation is a peripheral antitussive agent; it does not cause depression of the respiratory center; does not cause addiction.
Another component, guaifenesin, complements the antitussive effect of citrate butamirate with an expectorant effect. This substance enhances the activity of the ciliated epithelium and the secretion of the bronchial glands, reduces the viscosity of sputum, thereby improving its discharge.
Indications
Pectolvan Stop can be administered to children from the age of six months. indicated for paroxysmal, irritating, dry cough of various origins.
Also, this pharmaceutical is used to eliminate cough in the preoperative and postoperative periods.
Contraindications
The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to it, with myasthenia gravis.
Should not be used in patients with chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchial asthma, persistent, chronic and / or productive cough associated with smoking.
This pharmaceutical is used with caution in pneumoconiosis, tuberculosis.
Children
Pectolvan Stop can be administered to children from the age of six months.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
It is not recommended to use during the indicated periods as it contains ethanol.
Method of administration and dosage
Pectolvan Stop should be taken by mouth, preferably after meals. Drops must be dissolved in 100 ml of liquid (for example, in water, tea). An interval of four to six hours must be observed between doses.
The dosage of this drug is determined by the patient’s weight:
- up to seven kilograms – eight drops three to four times / day,
- seven to twelve kilograms – nine drops three to four times / day,
- twelve to twenty kilograms – fourteen drops three times / day,
- twenty to thirty kilograms – fourteen drops three to four times / day,
- thirty to forty kilograms – sixteen drops three to four times / day,
- forty to fifty kilograms – twenty-five drops three times / day,
- fifty-seventy kilograms – thirty drops three times / day,
- seventy to ninety kilograms – forty drops three times / day.
Drinking more fluid increases the effectiveness of therapy.
This drug should not be used for more than seven days without consulting a doctor.
Overdose
In case of an overdose of the drug, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, diarrhea, arterial hypotension, vomiting, and muscle weakness are noted.
Treatment includes gastric lavage, intake of enterosorbents, and symptomatic therapy. There is no specific antidote.
Side effects
When using the drug in the recommended dosage, it is generally well tolerated. Side effects usually disappear after lowering the dose.
Against the background of the use of the drug, side effects such as headache, difficulty breathing, lack of appetite, nausea, drowsiness, vomiting, dizziness, abdominal pain, urolithiasis, diarrhea may occur.
Allergic reactions are also possible (including skin rashes, urticaria, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, itching).
Storage conditions and periods
Store at temperatures below + 25 ° C.
Do not freeze this drug.
The shelf life of the drug is three years.
