Description

Priora Composition
The main active ingredient of the drug is docosanol.
The auxiliary substances are: sucrose stearate and sucrose distearate, mineral oil (light), propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol, purified water.

Release form
Produced in the form of a medicinal cream, in 2 ml tubes. One gram of cream contains 100 mg of the main active ingredient – docosanol.

Pharmacological properties
This drug Priora belongs to the group of chemotherapeutic antiviral drugs intended for topical use.
Until now, the mechanism of the antiviral effect is not well understood.
During in vitro studies, it was revealed that the main active ingredient docosanol can affect the ability to fusion of viruses and cell membranes. As a consequence, intracellular uptake and replication (reproduction) of the virus is suppressed.
According to the results of in vitro studies, scientists were able to establish that cells under the influence of docosanol have the ability to resist the process of infection with lipid-enveloping viruses such as HSV-1 (herpes simplex virus type I).

Indications

Contraindications
Not applicable if the patient has hypersensitivity (allergy) to one of the components that make up the drug.
Do not apply to damaged skin.
Do not apply to mucous membranes! In case of contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of warm water.
During the stage of blistering or ulceration, this drug will not be helpful.
Simultaneous local application with other drugs is undesirable, since they can neutralize the action of each other.

Children
In pediatrics, use is permissible from 12 years of age.

Application during pregnancy and lactation
Suitable for the treatment of pregnant women, regardless of the trimester.
There is no need to stop using this drug during lactation (breastfeeding).

Method of administration and dosage
Designed for topical use. Adults and children over 12 years old apply the cream to the affected surface with a thin layer.
Priora is applied up to 5 times a day (ie every 3 hours).
If the stage of herpes development has reached the formation of a blister or sore, the drug will not be effective.
The greatest effect is observed when applied at the stage of redness, itching, burning, pain.
Duration of use is 4-6 days. The maximum duration of use is 10 days.
Elderly patients do not need dosage adjustment.
If the patient has renal or hepatic insufficiency, then dosage or duration adjustment is also not required, since this drug does not enter the systemic circulation and does not affect internal systems and organs.

Overdose
Overdose cases have not yet been recorded and are unlikely due to low absorption of the drug through the skin.
