Prospan Composition
active substance: dry extract of ivy leaves;
1 ml of syrup contains 7 mg of dry extract of ivy leaves (Hedera helix L.) (5 – 7, 5: 1) extractant: ethanol 30%;
excipients: potassium sorbate; citric acid anhydrous; xanthan gum; cherry flavor; sorbitol solution, crystallizing (E 420); purified water;
2.5 ml of syrup contains 0.963 g of sorbitol sugar substitute = 0.08 bread unit.

Dosage form
Syrup.

Pharmacological properties
The drug Prospan of plant origin, contains glycosidic saponins, which cause antitussive, expectorant, antispasmodic and antimicrobial effects. Reduces the viscosity of sputum, facilitates its discharge.

Indications
Acute inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by a cough; symptomatic treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases of the bronchi.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active substance, plants of the Araliev family, or to any other component of the drug. Fructose intolerance.

Method of administration and dosage
For infants and children from 1 to 6 years old Prospan cough syrup is used orally 2.5 ml 2 times a day, children from 6 to 12 years old – 5 ml 2 times a day, adults and children from 12 years old – 5 ml 3 times a day using the supplied measuring cup.
Prospan syrup should be taken in the morning, afternoon and evening.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.
In uncomplicated cases, the duration of treatment is 1 week. To achieve a stable therapeutic effect, it is recommended to continue therapy for another 2-3 days after the patient’s condition improves.
Shake the bottle well before each use!
In the absence of improvement in the patient’s condition, it is necessary to consult a doctor for further treatment.

Children
The drug is used in pediatric practice.

Overdose
Taking doses in excess of the recommended dosages may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or anxiety. Treatment is symptomatic.

Side effects
Very rarely (less than 1 case in 10,000), a laxative effect may occur (due to the sorbitol content). Very rarely (less than 1 case in 10,000), allergic reactions may occur, including shortness of breath, swelling of the mucous membranes, skin rashes, hives, itching.
Patients with hypersensitivity may experience gastrointestinal disturbances, including nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Shelf life
3 years.
After opening the package, the drug can be used for 6 months.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the package.

Storage conditions
Store Prospan at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C out of the reach of children.
During storage, slight turbidity and slight changes in the taste of the syrup are possible, which does not affect the therapeutic properties of the drug.
