Prospan Ingredients
active substance: dry ivy leaf extract;
1 ml (30 drops) of the medicinal product contains 0.02 g of dry ivy leaf extract (folia Hedera helix L.) (5–7.5: 1); extractant: ethanol 30% (m / m).
excipients: purified water, ethanol 96%, sodium saccharin, anise oil, peppermint oil, bitter fennel oil.

Pharmacological properties
Prospan is an herbal cough medicine. It has an expectorant, mucolytic and antispasmodic effect. Reduces the viscosity of phlegm and promotes its discharge.
Indications
Prospan is intended for the symptomatic treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases of the bronchi; acute inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, which are accompanied by a cough.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any other component of the drug. Patients who are strictly prohibited from drinking alcohol, even in minimal amounts, (for example, after completing alcoholism treatment) are not recommended to take this drug. The drug is not recommended for children under 2 years of age (because of the risk of increased respiratory symptoms).
Method of administration and dosage:
- Adults and children over 10 years of age are prescribed 24 drops 3 times a day;
- children from 4 to 10 years old – 16 drops 3 times a day;
- children from 2 to 4 years old – 12 drops 3 times a day.
Prospan drops should be taken before meals. Children are advised to give drops with a little fruit juice.
The duration of treatment is determined by the doctor individually. Usually the course of treatment is 7 days. To achieve a stable therapeutic effect, treatment is recommended to continue for another 2-3 days after the symptoms of the disease disappear. If the symptoms of the disease persist or, conversely, the condition worsens, you should consult your doctor.
Children
The drug is not recommended for children under 2 years of age (because of the risk of increased respiratory symptoms).
Overdose
The recommended daily dose should not be exceeded. Swallowing large amounts of the drug (more than three daily doses) can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and agitation. Treatment is symptomatic.
Side effects
Very rarely, allergic reactions (shortness of breath, Quincke’s edema, skin rash, urticaria) (frequency unknown), gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain) (frequency unknown) may occur.
In case of any adverse reactions, you should stop treatment and consult your doctor.
Shelf life
4 years.
Shelf life after opening the bottle is 6 months.
Do not use after the expiration date printed on the package.
Storage conditions
Store at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° С out of reach of children.
