Prospan Ingredients
active substance: dry extract of ivy leaves;
5 ml of solution (1 stick) contains 35 mg of dry extract of ivy leaves (Hedera helix L.) (5–7.5: 1); extractant: ethanol 30% (v / v);
excipients: potassium sorbate; citric acid anhydrous; xanthan gum; sorbitol crystallizing solution (E 420); fragrance Freskofort Permasil; natural orange flavor; menthol; purified water.

Dosage form
Oral solution.

Pharmacological properties
In a clinical study, the bronchodilator effect of Prospan was noted. Animal experiments have demonstrated the antispasmodic effect of the drug.
It is assumed that the secretolytic effect is caused by irritation of the gastric mucosa by reflex stimulation of the mucous glands of the bronchi through sensory parasympatholytic fibers.
Immunohistochemical and biophysical experiments in vitro showed inhibition of the uptake of β2-receptors by α-hederin – even under strong stimulation conditions – in alveolar epithelial cells of type II.

Indications
Symptomatic treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases of the bronchi; acute inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by a cough.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any other component of the drug.

Method of administration and dosage
Adults and children from 12 years old take a solution of 1 stick (5 ml) 3 times a day, which corresponds to 105 mg of dried ivy leaf extract; children 6 – 11 years old – 1 stick (5 ml) 2 times a day, which corresponds to 70 mg of ivy leaf dry extract.
Before use, you must slightly knead the stick.
Take Prospan undiluted in the morning (lunchtime) and evening.
The duration of treatment depends on the nature and severity of the symptoms of the disease and is usually one week, even in the case of mild inflammation of the airways.
To achieve a stable therapeutic effect, it is recommended to continue treatment for another 2 – 3 days after the patient’s condition improves.

Children
In this dosage form, it can be used by children from 6 years old.

Overdose
Taking large amounts of the drug (three times the daily dose) can lead to nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and agitation. In this case, you should immediately consult a doctor.

Side effects
Allergic reactions are possible, including skin rashes, itching, redness of the skin, urticaria, Quincke’s edema, dyspnea (frequency unknown).
Gastrointestinal upset may occur, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain (frequency unknown).
If any adverse reactions occur, you should stop treatment and consult a doctor.

Shelf life
3 years.
Do not use after the expiration date printed on the package.

Storage conditions
Store Prospan at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C out of the reach of children.
