Composition
active ingredient: econazole nitrate;
1 suppository contains econazole nitrate 150 mg;
excipients: polyethylene oxide 400, polyethylene oxide 1500, solid fat, cetyl alcohol, titanium dioxide (E 171), anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide
Dosage form
Suppositories are vaginal.
Basic physical and chemical properties: white suppositories of a bullet-shaped form.

Pharmacological properties
This drug is included in the group of antimicrobial, antiseptic drugs used in gynecology as an antimycotic agent.
The main active ingredient is econazole. It is a triazole fungicide.
Has an antifungal effect against dermatophyte-type fungi, as well as yeast and moldy fungi.
It also shows activity against bacteria of the gram-positive and gram-negative series.
The mechanism of action is due to the ability to damage the cell membranes of the fungus through the property of increasing the permeability of the cells of the microorganism and damage the intracellular membranes inside the cytoplasm.
Reaches the maximum concentration 24-48 hours after the first injection of the drug, depending on the dosage used.
Indications
It is intended for the use of the drug for the treatment of certain diseases of the vagina. In particular, they are used in the treatment of vulvovaginal mycoses caused by pathogens of fungal infections sensitive to econazole.
Contraindications
The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
You should not violate the rules for the use of this medicinal pharmaceutical product.
Not for oral use.
This medication should not be combined with other intravaginal preparations based on mineral oils, vegetable oils or petroleum jelly.
The level of blood clotting should be monitored while taking it with oral anticoagulants such as warfarin, acenocoumarol and phenprocoumon.
Simultaneous use with barrier contraceptives should be avoided, as the drug can weaken their effect.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug can be used in the treatment of pregnant women only in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy, if absolutely necessary.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.
Method of administration and dosage
When using pessaries at a dosage of 150 mg, 1 pessary is prescribed 1 time per day, at night, for 3 days. Treatment continues until the symptoms of itching disappear. The drug is administered before going to bed, after removing the packaging from the pessary and inserting it deeper into the vagina.
In case of relapse, or if culture analysis showed a positive result 1 week after treatment, a second course of treatment should be carried out.
Overdose
Overdose was not observed due to the low toxicity of the components of the drug.
Theoretically, an overdose can cause an increase in adverse reactions.
However, accidental ingestion may increase side effects.
Accidental ingestion can cause:
- nausea, vomiting;
- diarrhea, headache.
In case of an overdose, symptomatic treatment is recommended – gastric lavage, intake of enterosorbents.
The effectiveness of hemodialysis has not been studied. No specific antidote has been identified.
Side effects
The drug is usually well tolerated.
In some cases, side effects such as:
- hypersensitivity reactions in the form of itching, erythema;
- angioneurotic edema, allergic urticaria, contact dermatitis;
- dryness and flaking of the skin;
- burning sensations in the body;
- pain at the site of administration, hyperemia.
