Composition
active ingredients: 1 capsule contains 50 mg of valerian dry extract (Valeriana officinalis L.) (3-8:1) (extractant – ethanol 80%); 25 mg of dry peppermint extract (Mentha piperita L.) (4-6:1) (extractant – ethanol 50%); 25 mg of lemon mint (melissa) dry extract (Melissa officinalis L.) (6-8:1) (extractant – ethanol 70%);
excipients: anhydrous lactose, talc, colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide;
the composition of the capsule shell: titanium dioxide (E 171), iron oxide yellow (E 172), indigotin (E 132), gelatin.

Main physicochemical properties: hard gelatin capsules. The contents of the capsule are light brown to brown powder or granules with a specific smell. A yellowish or grayish tint is allowed, as well as the presence of dark and white spots.

Pharmacological properties
This drug belongs to the group of complex phytopreparations that affect the functioning of the nervous and cardiovascular systems, is used in neurology and cardiology.
The main active ingredients are valerian, lemon balm and mint extracts.
The cardiological effect is due to useful microelements that are part of, in particular, essential oils, steroids, stachydrin, leopurin, flavonoids, borneol, quercetin, saponins, ascorbic and valeric acids, alkaloids, bitterness, mineral salts, and other substances.
Passionflower and mint contain substances that contribute to the sedative effect of the drug.
Oral administration of the drug contributes to a positive effect on the state of the cardiovascular system. It has a cardiotonic, moderate sedative (sedative effect).
It causes a decrease in the excitation of the central nervous system, enhances the effect of sedatives, pain relievers, antispasmodic and cardiotonic drugs.
Indications
This drug Sedasen is used as a drug used in the complex treatment of conditions associated with disruption of the nervous and cardiovascular systems.
In particular, it is used to relieve symptoms of moderate psychological stress, mild neuroses.
In particular, when:
- anxiety;
- trouble falling asleep;
- nervous excitement.
Contraindications
The drug Sedasen in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
Also, use is contraindicated for:
- arterial hypotension;
- bronchial asthma;
- depression, other types of depression of the central nervous system.
When used together with alcoholic beverages, as well as sedatives, anesthetic and antispasmodic drugs, it enhances the effect of the latter. For this reason, with the simultaneous use of these substances, the patient should be monitored.
In pediatrics, it can be used from the age of 12.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug Sedasen is contraindicated for use in the treatment of pregnant women and women during lactation (only if absolutely necessary).
Method of administration and dosage
Adults and children over 12 years of age should use 1-2 capsules 2-3 times a day when mentally stressed, excited or irritable; for insomnia – 1-2 capsules 1 hour before bedtime. The maximum daily dose for adults is 6 capsules divided into 3 doses. The drug is characterized by a gradual manifestation of action. To achieve the optimal treatment effect, it is recommended to use it for at least 14 days. The term of treatment is not limited. Even with long-term use of the drug, addiction is not observed. After stopping the treatment, there is no withdrawal syndrome. If there is no improvement in the condition within 14 days, you should consult a doctor.
Children
There is no data on the use of this combination of medicinal plant extracts in children under 12 years of age, so it is not recommended to use it in this age category of patients.
Overdose
Overdose can cause:
- lethargy, drowsiness, weakness, fatigue, loss of consciousness;
- tachycardia, fatigue;
- drowsiness, dizziness, headache.
Treatment is symptomatic. In this case, the use of the drug should be canceled, the stomach should be washed out and sorbents should be taken.
Side effects
Adverse reactions may occur. In this case, such reactions are possible as:
- tachycardia;
- drowsiness, depression of emotions, depression, decreased performance, headache, muscle weakness;
- bronchospasm;
- dyspeptic symptoms – nausea, vomiting;
- allergic reactions, rash, itching, allergic urticaria.
