Pharmacological Effects: Carmellose sodium acts as an artificial tear to lubricate the eyes and maintain moisture on the ocular surface. It forms a protective film over the eye, reducing friction and discomfort associated with dry eyes.
Clinical Trials: Clinical trials have shown that carmellose sodium eye drops provide effective relief for dry eye symptoms with minimal side effects. A study published in the British Journal of Ophthalmology found that carmellose sodium was well-tolerated and significantly improved dry eye symptoms compared to a placebo.
