Local treatment of symptoms of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the throat and larynx.
Description
SeptoLor (chlorhexidine) spray 50 ml. vial
Composition
Active substance: chlorhexidine.
Pharmacological properties
Chlorhexidine exerts an antibacterial effect by non-specific binding to phospholipids of the cell membrane of bacteria, where chlorhexidine inhibits the activity of dehydrogenase and ATPase and disrupts the permeability of the membrane for potassium, nucleotides and amino acids.
Chlorhexidine acts as a bacteriostatic drug in low concentrations (less than 20 mg/l) and as a bactericidal drug in high concentrations. Its action is directed mainly against gram-positive microorganisms and Candida albicans and to a lesser extent against gram-negative microorganisms. Chlorhexidine is particularly effective against Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus salvarius, Escherichia coli, Selenomonas, anaerobic bacteria and Candida albicans. Slightly less effective against Streptococcus sanquis, Proteus, Pseudomonas, Klebsiella and Veillonella species.
