Sertaconazol-Farmex (sertaconazole) pessary 300 mg. №1
Composition
active substance: sertaconazole;
1 pessary contains sertaconazole nitrate 300 mg;
excipients: colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, solid fat.
Medicinal form
Pessaries.
The main physical and chemical properties: smooth pessaries of white or almost white color, torpedo-shaped. There are no inclusions on the longitudinal section, the presence of a funnel-shaped depression and an air core is allowed.

Pharmacological properties
It is an antifungal agent for topical use (insertion into the vagina). Derived from imidazole. It has a strong fungicidal effect, having a wide range of activity against pathogenic fungi – yeasts (Pityrosporum orbiculare, Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis), dermatophytes (Epidermophyton, Microsporum, Trichophyton), and other pathogens that provoke infectious diseases of the skin or mucous membranes, including gram Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp.), Trichomonas (Trichomonas vaginalis). The mechanism of action of the drug is due to the ability to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol, increase the permeability of fungal cell membranes, causing the death of fungi.
Indications
Sertaconazol-Farmex is used for the topical treatment of vaginal candidiasis caused by dermatophytes and yeast fungi.
Contraindications
Sertaconazol-Farmex is not used:
- with intolerance to the components of the drug;
- if you are allergic to any antifungal derivatives of the imidazole group in the past;
- children (no data on use in pediatrics).
The simultaneous use of pessaries with latex condoms or other barrier contraception is prohibited.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The effect on newborns, the embryo, the course of pregnancy has not been studied in humans, therefore, before prescribing the drug to a pregnant or breastfeeding woman, a risk-benefit ratio should be assessed.
The category of action on the fetus according to the Food and Drug Administration classification is C.
Method of administration and dosage
Sertaconazol-Farmex is used topically by inserting a pessary deep into the vagina once a day (in the evening before bedtime). A single application is usually sufficient. If the clinical manifestations (symptoms) of the disease do not disappear, it is recommended to reapply it after seven days (this issue is decided by the attending physician).
The simultaneous use of latex condoms or pessary is not recommended – there is a risk of damage.
With the simultaneous use of local contraceptives, it is possible to reduce their spermicidal effect.
Overdose
Taking into account the low concentration of the active substance, as well as the route of administration, intoxication is unlikely.
In case of accidental ingestion (swallowing), appropriate treatment must be applied (gastric lavage, use of sorbents, prescription of symptomatic therapy).
Side effects
Local disorders: contact dermatitis (urticaria, burning, dry skin, itching), transient irritant effect (burning sensation, itching in the vagina), which may be the result of exposure to cell fragments of dead pathogens and pass on their own.
Immune disorders: the possibility of developing allergic reactions (urticaria, rash, itching, redness of the face and skin, bronchospasm, angioedema) is not excluded, incl. anaphylactic shock.
