Sintomicina liniment (syntomycin) 100 mg/g. 25 g. tube

Composition

active ingredient: 1 g of liniment contains synthomycin 50 mg or 100 mg;

excipients: castor oil, emulsifier No. 1, sorbic acid, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, purified water.

Dosage form

Liniment for outdoor use.

Basic physical and chemical properties:

liniment white or white with a yellowish tint, with a slight specific odor.

Pharmacological properties

The drug in question is included in the group of combined antimicrobial drugs used in the antibacterial treatment of tissues, local action.
The main active ingredient is chloramphenicol (chloramphenicol). An antibacterial drug, has an anti-inflammatory and dehydrating effect with an antimicrobial effect.
Has the activity of a relatively wide range of microbes (gram-negative and gram-positive, including staphylococci, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli). It has the ability to easily penetrate deep into tissues without damaging the biological membrane. It is an effective regenerating agent. It has its antibacterial effect, despite the presence of purulent, necrotic masses.
Has anti-inflammatory and dehydrating effect. Procaine works as a pain reliever, while ethanol has an antimicrobial effect.

Indications

This drug Sintomicina liniment is used to treat purulent wounds (including those infected with mixed microflora) in the first, purulent-necrotic phase of the wound process.
Can be used in dermatology, for the treatment of wounds, bedsores, burns, traumatic and surgical festering, pyoderma, carbuncles, boils, radiation sickness, acne.

Contraindications

The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or one of the auxiliary components.
Also contraindicated for use with:

  • diseases of the skin of a viral or mycotic nature (mycoses, smallpox, tuberculosis, herpes);
  • neoplasms on the skin;
  • in the post-vaccination period.

Used in pediatrics from 1 year.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

This drug should not be used during pregnancy – only as a last resort, by the decision of the doctor.
If there is a need to take the drug in women and during lactation, then breastfeeding should be suspended.

Method of administration and dosage

The drug Sintomicina liniment is intended for topical use, 1 to 3 times during the day.
This drug should be impregnated with a sterile gauze napkin, with which to blot the wound. It is allowed to enter into purulent cavities using a catheter, drainage tube, syringe.
The duration of the treatment course is from 7 to 14 days.
The dosage adjustment and the duration of treatment are determined by the attending physician individually, depending on the individual indicators of the course of the disease.
Elderly patients do not need dosage adjustments.

Overdose

Overdose with this drug for a long time can cause:

  • hirsutism, acne;
  • menstrual irregularities, osteoporosis;
  • pancreatitis, irritation of the mucous membranes, exacerbation of stomach ulcers;
  • dyspepsia phenomena.

Symptomatic treatment is recommended.

Side effects

The use of this drug in a patient can cause side effects in the form of a local irritating reaction – burning sensation, pains that go away on their own, therefore, drug treatment should not be stopped.
In some cases, an allergic reaction to the use of chloramphenicol appears, in particular, in the form of contact dermatitis, redness, edema accompanied by itching or exanthema, which quickly disappear after stopping treatment.
Also, with prolonged use, systemic reactions may occur in the form of:

  • dermatitis, eczema, contact dermatitis;
  • aplastic anemia (rare);
  • depigmentation, hypertrichosis;
  • periodical dermatitis;
  • inhibition of the growth of the epidermis, itching, burning, irritation, rash, dryness and maceration of the skin.
