Scientific Evidence:
Tizanidine, the active ingredient in Sirdalud, acts as a centrally acting alpha-2 adrenergic agonist. It exerts its muscle relaxant effects by inhibiting the release of excitatory neurotransmitters in the spinal cord, leading to a reduction in muscle tone.
- Studies have shown the efficacy of tizanidine in reducing muscle spasticity and improving functional outcomes in patients with neurological disorders.
- Research published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry demonstrated a significant reduction in muscle tone and improvement in muscle spasms in patients with multiple sclerosis compared to placebo.
- Another study in the European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine found that tizanidine effectively reduced spasticity in individuals with spinal cord injury.
