Composition

active substances: 100 g of solution contain: 2-propanol – 45 g, 1-propanol – 30 g, mecetronium ethyl sulfate – 0.2 g;

Excipients: myristyl alcohol, glycerin (85%), flavoring “Oranium pH 799867”, blue patented dye V (85%) E 131, purified water.

Dosage form

The solution is dermal.

Main physical and chemical properties: transparent, light blue solution with a fresh alcohol odor, density 20 ºC – 0,847-0,855 g / cm3, refractive index n 20 / D – 1,376-1,381.

Pharmacological properties

This drug Sterillium solution is included in the group of antiseptic drugs. Also used as a disinfectant
The main active ingredient is propanol (ethanol), in different percentages. This is a monohydric alcohol, also called methylcarbinol, alcohol, alcohol. In addition to antiseptic properties, it can also be used as a fuel, solvent, filler for thermometers.
If the drug is used externally, then in addition to a disinfectant, it also has a local irritant effect. Able to coagulate proteins. Its activity lends itself to gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms – both bacteria and viruses.
Has a tanning effect on the dermis and mucous membranes.
Mecetronium ethyl sulfate also has a prolonged bactericidal, fungicidal and tuberculocidal effect.

Indications

This medicinal product Sterillium solution is used topically, as an external antiseptic agent for disinfecting the skin of the hands, antiseptic treatment of the skin before medical procedures – injections, punctures, etc.

Contraindications

The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or one of the auxiliary components.
Use is contraindicated if there are pronounced inflammatory processes, wounds on the skin.
The use of ethanol orally simultaneously with nitrofurans causes an increase in the toxicity of the latter. The simultaneous intake of ethanol with antidiabetic agents can cause the development of hypoglycemic coma.
Ethanol has the ability to reduce the effectiveness of thiamine. When taken together with acetylsalicylic acid, there is an increase in the risk of stomach ulcers when combined.
Taking sleeping pills together can cause severe breathing difficulties. Ethanol also increases the neurotoxicity of penicillins, cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, regardless of whether ethanol was administered orally or intravenously.
In pediatrics, it is not used in newborns and premature babies.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

This drug Sterillium solution is contraindicated in the treatment of pregnant women.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.

Method of application and dosage

The product for external use can be used everywhere, even in the absence of sinks for washing and water.

For convenience when using the drug Sterillium solution is better to select using a dosing device. Existing dosing systems allow Sterillium solution to be selected non-contact. Dispensers can be placed regardless of the presence of sinks or sinks where hygienic antiseptic treatment of the skin of the hands is required.

1. Hygienic antiseptic treatment of the skin of the hands is directed against the transient microflora of the skin of the hands without disturbing the resident microflora.

Hygienic antiseptic treatment of hand skin is carried out:

  • in institutions, enterprises, institutions and organizations of health care;
  • in children’s preschool institutions, educational institutions of different levels of accreditation;
  • at the enterprises of the cosmetic, pharmaceutical, microbiological industry;
  • at the enterprises of the food industry;
  • in catering and trade establishments;
  • on all modes of transport;
  • on communal facilities;
  • in social protection institutions;
  • in penitentiary institutions;
  • for antiseptic treatment of the skin of the hands on objects whose activities require hygiene, including in the home for the treatment of the skin of the hands of persons caring for newborns, elderly patients, the sick, traveling.

Hygienic antiseptic treatment of the skin of the hands is recommended before:

  • entrance to aseptic rooms (preoperative, sterilization departments, intensive care units, hemodialysis);
  • performing invasive procedures (catheters, injections, bronchoscopy, endoscopy);
  • activities in which infection of the object is possible (for example, preparation of infusions, filling containers with solutions);
  • every direct contact with patients;
  • transition from infected to uninfected part of the patient’s body;
  • contact with sterile material and tools;
  • using gloves.

  • contact with contaminated objects, liquids or surfaces (for example, with the urine collection system, contaminated linen, biosubstrates, patient excretions);
  • contact with already introduced drainages, catheters or with the place of their introduction;
  • each contact with wounds;

  • after cleaning the nose (with rhinitis there is a high probability of a viral infection, followed by the release of S.aureus).

2. Surgical antiseptic treatment of the skin of the hands of medical staff is directed against the transient and resident microflora of the skin of the hands.

Surgical antiseptic treatment of the skin of the hands is performed before each operation.

3. Antiseptic treatment of the skin before injections and punctures.

Antiseptic treatment of the skin should be performed before injections, punctures, blood sampling, minor surgeries, as well as for antiseptic treatment of minor skin lesions.

Antiseptic treatment of the skin before injections and punctures:

  • in places of possible interventions, dry skin should be treated with a swab moistened with Sterillium for 15 seconds;
  • before minor surgery (before punctures of joints, cavities and body cavities) to treat the skin for 1 minute;
  • skin with a large number of sebaceous glands should be moisturized for 10 minutes.

4. Dosage:

  • In medical practice
    Hygienic antiseptic treatment of the skin of the hands – at least 3 ml of the product rubbed into the dry skin of the hands for 30 seconds.
  • Surgical antiseptic treatment of the skin of the hands – at least 6 ml (2×3 ml) of the tool rubbed into the skin of the hands in portions for 1.5 minutes (2×45 seconds).
  • In industry
    Rub 3 ml of Sterillium into dry skin of hands for 30 seconds.
  • In other areas where hygienic standards are required, and in everyday life
    Rub 3 ml of Sterillium into dry skin of hands for 30 seconds.

Children

Do not use the drug Sterillium solution to treat the skin of newborns and premature babies.

In other cases, the drug is prescribed by a doctor.

Overdose

Overdose with external use was not observed.
With excessive oral or intravenous intake, it is possible:

  • oppression of the respiratory center.
  • coma (symptoms – cold clammy skin, facial flushing, decreased body temperature, vomiting, involuntary discharge of urine and feces, constriction of the pupils, and with progression – respiratory failure, nystagmus, tachycardia);
  • convulsions, aspiration of vomit, laryngospasm;
  • possible respiratory arrest due to mechanical asphyxia;
  • oppression of cardiovascular activity.

In case of overdose – apply treatment of symptoms, rinse the stomach, induce vomiting, take enterosorbents.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated when used externally if used in the recommended doses.
You may experience:

  • skin irritation;
  • irritation of the mucous membranes;
  • depression of the central nervous system.
