Succinic acid is a substance of natural origin that contributes to the normalization of general metabolism in the body and has a wide range of biological effects: it stimulates energy metabolism in the cells of the body, significantly improves cellular respiration, and has an antihypoxic effect; improves cerebral circulation and heart function; helps to eliminate toxic substances (both endogenous and exogenous) from the body; accelerates the breakdown of alcohol, contributes to a more active elimination of its metabolites.

Composition and form of release

  • succinic acid – 150.0 mg;
  • ascorbic acid – 20.0 mg;
  • excipients.

Indications

Succinic acid is used as a dietary supplement. Its use is indicated for functional asthenic conditions and age-related ailments. The drug is used in extreme conditions to increase endurance. Succinic acid has a pronounced antioxidant effect, its intake helps to remove free radicals from the body.
The systematic intake of succinic acid reduces sclerotic manifestations and perfectly relieves attacks of headaches caused by malnutrition of brain cells. Succinic acid has a pronounced immunostimulating effect, which makes it possible to use it for the prevention and treatment of seasonal epidemics of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections.
It is used in the treatment of nervous exhaustion and depression, as well as in the complex treatment of alcohol poisoning.

Contraindications

Succinic acid is not prescribed to patients who have a history of arterial hypertension, ischemic heart disease, ulcerative lesions of the stomach and intestines in the acute stage, angina pectoris, glaucoma, late gestosis of pregnant women.
It is not advisable to combine the intake of succinic acid with the use of barbiturates and anxiolytics, since it reduces their effectiveness.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

The appointment of succinic acid is recommended for pregnant women in the first trimester. The drug is prescribed from 12 to 14 weeks of pregnancy, in the second trimester – from 24 to 26 weeks and in the third trimester – 10 or 25 days before the estimated date of birth, 250 mg per day for 10 days.
Succinic acid can be combined with breastfeeding.

Method of administration and dosage

Succinic acid tablets is taken orally before meals. To prevent the development of alcohol intoxication, the drug is taken at 250 mg one hour before alcohol intake. In the treatment of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, succinic acid is prescribed 250 mg from 3 to 4 times a day from 4 to 10 days.
To stimulate appetite, the drug is taken at 250 mg 1 to 3 times a day for 3 or 5 days.

Overdose

There have been no officially recorded cases of overdose with succinic acid. However, it can be assumed that when taking the drug in higher doses, the patient may experience an increase in side effects.
To prevent the development of various undesirable phenomena when taking the drug in high doses, the patient is recommended to vomit and prescribe activated charcoal.

Side effects

Reception of succinic acid can be accompanied by the development of epigastric pain, hypersecretion of gastric juice and a persistent increase in blood pressure.
Due to the fact that succinic acid is a natural substance that is produced in the human body, allergic reactions are rarely observed when taken.
