Composition
active substance: taurine;
1 ml of solution contains taurine 40 mg;
Excipients: methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), water for injections.

Pharmacological properties
This drug belongs to the group of ophthalmic drugs used to treat various eye diseases.
The main active ingredient is taurine. It is a sulfur-containing amino acid formed in the human body during metabolic processes accompanying the conversion of cysteines.
Taurine takes part in the synthesis of tissues and plastic materials, due to which it enhances the repair and regeneration of plastic materials in the treatment of eye diseases.
It is effective both in dystrophic and pathological processes of the eyes, which accompany a sharp violation of metabolic processes in the tissues of the eyes, including traumatic ones.
It normalizes the work of cell membranes, optimizes the processes of energy exchange and metabolism, maintains a constant composition of electrolytes in cells, inhibits synaptic transmission.
Indications
This drug Taufon eye drops is used in the treatment of eye diseases, in particular for:
- dystrophic lesions of the cornea and retina, including hereditary tapetoretinal degenerations;
- cataract (age-related, diabetic, traumatic, radiation);
- stimulation of reparative processes in corneal injuries;
- open-angle glaucoma (as an additional agent).
Contraindications
The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
Using this drug can potentially lower intraocular or blood pressure.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug is not recommended for pregnant women.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.
Method of administration and dosage
This drug Taufon eye drops is instilled into the conjunctival sac.
A few minutes before use, the bottle with the drug should be held in your hand to warm it up.
For the treatment of cataracts, 2-3 drops are prescribed 2-4 times a day daily. The duration of the course of treatment is 3 months. The courses of treatment are repeated at intervals of 1 month.
In case of eye injuries, use 2-3 drops 2-4 times a day for 1 month.
For the treatment of tapetoretinal degeneration and other degenerative diseases of the retina, penetrating injuries of the cornea, the drug is administered in 0.3 ml of a 4% solution once a day for 10 days. The course of treatment is repeated after 6-8 months.
In case of open-angle glaucoma, the drug should be instilled in 2-3 drops into the conjunctival sac 2 times a day for 20-30 minutes before using timolol. The course of treatment is determined by the doctor individually.
Elderly patients, with renal or hepatic insufficiency, do not need dosage adjustment.
The patient should consult a doctor if the symptoms of the disease did not disappear during the use of the medicinal product or if adverse reactions are observed that are not specified in the instructions for medical use of the medicinal product.
Overdose
Overdose has not yet been observed.
Side effects
The drug is usually well tolerated when used in the recommended doses.
Some side effects may occur. In particular, allergic reactions may occur: allergic urticaria, rash, itching, dermatitis, edema, conjunctival hyperemia, anaphylactic shock, burning and stinging eyes.
