Description

Terbizil (terbinafine hydrochloride) cream 1% 15 g. tube

Composition

active substance: terbinafine hydrochloride;

1 g of cream contains 10 mg of terbinafine hydrochloride;

Excipients: sodium hydroxide, benzyl alcohol, sorbitan stearate, cetyl palmitate, cetyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, isopropyl myristate, purified water.

Dosage form

Cream.

Main physical and chemical properties: cream white or almost white with a slight odor of almonds, easily washed off with water.

Pharmacological properties

This drug is included in the group of drugs for the treatment of mycoses.
The main active component of terbinafine is synthetic allylamine, which is highly effective against various dermatophyte fungi.
In particular, it is active against trichophytosis, tonsurans, verrucosum, microsporum, pityrosporum, candida, epidermophytosis, and other types of dermatophyte fungi.
When used in small doses, it has a fungicidal effect against dimorphic, mold and dermatophytes.
Relative to Candida fungi, it produces both fungicidal and fungistatic effects.
Able to influence the early stage of biosynthesis of one of the most important components of fungal cell membranes – ergosterols. As a result, there is a shortage of egosterols and the accumulation of squalene inside the cell. As a result, the death of the fungal cell occurs.
It has a low degree of absorption into the body.

Indications

This drug Terbizil cream is used to treat:

  • fungal infections of the skin (trichophytosis of smooth skin and inguinal epidermophytosis), athlete’s feet (athlete’s foot);
  • fungal skin infections caused by yeast (cutaneous candidiasis);
  • multi-colored lichen.

Contraindications

The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components, hereditary fructose / maltose intolerance.
Contact with eyes should be avoided.
In pediatrics, it is used upon reaching the age of two.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

This drug is contraindicated for pregnant women.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.

Method of administration and dosage

The drug Terbizil cream is used externally, applying it in a thin layer to thoroughly cleansed and dried skin (its affected by the fungus area), 1-2 times a day (depending on the type of disease and the strain of the fungus).
The cream is lightly rubbed both into the place of spread of the fungus, and capturing 1-2 cm around the affected skin.
If the skin is affected by a disease in the chest, groin, fingers, then after applying the cream, this place should be covered with gauze, gauze bandage (especially before going to bed).
Recommended courses of treatment:

  • trichophytosis of smooth skin and inguinal epidermophytosis – 2 times a day, period – 1 week;
  • athlete’s foot – 1-2 times a day, period – 1 week;
  • candidiasis of the skin – 1-2 times a day, period – 2 weeks;
  • versicolor versicolor – 1-2 times a day – 2 weeks.

If the effect is not noticeable within two weeks, the attending physician should be notified for re-evaluation of the diagnosis. If there is a need to continue the course of treatment, this can be done by the attending physician.
The faster you start taking the drug at the first signs of illness, the better the result.

Overdose

Overdose (when applied topically) is unlikely due to low absorption of the drug through the skin.
If the cream is accidentally swallowed, you may experience:

  • headache;
  • abdominal pain;
  • dizziness.

In this case, the symptoms should be treated – rinse the stomach, take enterosorbents.
When applied topically, itching and burning may occur, which quickly pass and do not require special treatment.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated when used in the recommended doses.

Allergy may occur in case of individual intolerance. In particular, it can be observed:

  • allergic reactions – itching, allergic urticaria, rash;
  • burning of the skin at the site of application.
