Composition

active ingredients: ternidazole, neomycin sulfate, nystatin, prednisolone sodium metasulfobenzoate;

1 vaginal tablet contains ternidazole 200 mg; neomycin sulfate 100 mg (65,000 IU); nystatin 100,000 IU; prednisolone sodium metasulfobenzoate 4.7 mg, which corresponds to 3.0 mg of prednisolone.

excipients: wheat starch, anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium starch glycolate (type A), magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate.

Dosage form

Vaginal tablets.

Basic physical and chemical properties: oblong cream-colored tablets with the letter “T”.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacological properties are due to the properties of the components of the drug. Tergynan with its polyvalent formula is suitable for local treatment of vaginitis of various origins: infectious, parasitic or mixed. It combines:

– ternidazole, which has a trichomonacid effect and is active against anaerobic bacteria, including gardnerel;

– neomycin sulfate, which is a broad-spectrum antibiotic active against vaginal pyogenic organisms;

The following microorganisms are sensitive to neomycin sulfate:

Corynebacterium, Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus Meti-S, Acinetobacter baumannii, Brahamella catarrhalis, Campylobacter, Citrobacter freundii, Citrobacter koseri, Enterobacter aerogenes, Enterobacter cloacae, E. Salmonella, Serratia, Shigella, Yersinia;

– nystatin, which is an antifungal antibiotic of the polyene group, active against fungi of the genus Candida;

– Prednisolone, which is a glucocorticoid, has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect.

The composition of the excipients makes it possible to ensure the integrity of the vaginal mucosa and a constant pH.

Indications

Tergynan vaginal tablets is intended for the treatment of vaginitis of bacterial etiology:

  • Trichomonas vaginitis;
  • non-specific recurrent vaginitis;
  • bacterial vaginosis;
  • vaginitis of fungal etiology, the causative agents of which are Candida albicans;
  • vaginitis of mixed etiology caused by anaerobic flora, including gardnerella, Trichomonas and yeast-like fungi.

It can also be used to prevent the development of infections in the preoperative period and before abortion or childbirth. It is prescribed to patients for prophylactic purposes before the installation of contraceptive coils, as well as before and after diathermocoagulation of the cervix and before conducting intrauterine studies.

Contraindications

Tergynan is not prescribed if the patient has previously been diagnosed with individual intolerance to the main or auxiliary components of the drug.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Tergynan vaginal tablets can be used in the therapy of women at the stage of lactation and pregnancy for medical reasons, since it is not actually adsorbed into the bloodstream and has only a local effect.

Method of administration and dosage

Tergynan is intended for intravaginal administration. The drug is administered once a day, 1 tablet at bedtime. Before the introduction of the tablet, it is recommended to soak for 20 or 30 seconds in boiled and chilled water, and then insert it deeply into the vagina. After the introduction of the tablet, it is recommended to lie down for 10 to 15 minutes. If there are no other recommendations, then the duration of treatment is 10 days. When treating mycosis, the duration of the course of treatment can be increased to 20 days. Menstruation is not a contraindication for the administration of Terginan tablets.

Overdose

Due to the fact that Tergynan is not actually adsorbed into the bloodstream, an overdose of the drug is virtually impossible.
If during the treatment with the drug the patient has unusual symptoms, then they should be immediately reported to the attending physician.

Side effects

Tergynan is well tolerated by patients, however, in rare cases, at the beginning of treatment, the patient may experience local allergic reactions manifested by burning, itching, hyperemia, discomfort in the vulva and vagina. Such symptoms are not clinically significant and disappear very quickly on their own with further treatment.
