Pharmacological properties

This pharmaceutical agent belongs to a group of drugs used in the treatment of certain types of diseases of the digestive system and metabolic processes in the body.
The drug owes its effect to the main therapeutic component – thioctic (lipoic) acid. The name “thioctacid” is also found. This medicinal substance from the group of vitamin-like components is an endogenous antioxidant.
Thioctic acid is an important cofactor and coenzyme involved in the oxidative decarboxylation of alpha-keto acids. Excess blood sugar (hyperglycemia) causes the accumulation of products of accelerated glycolysis, which in turn causes a decrease in blood flow and hypoxia, as well as ischemic changes. As a result, free radicals accumulate, damaging peripheral nerves.
Thioctic acid causes a decrease in blood glucose levels. The level of glycogen in the liver also increases. Insulin resistance increases.
Takes part in the regulation of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, stimulates cholesterol metabolism. It improves liver function, protects its resistance to the effects of free radicals and toxic substances.
It has hepatoprotective, hypolipidemic, hypocholesterolemic and hypoglycemic effects.

Indications

Thioctacid 600 HR tablets used for the treatment of paresthesias (nervous sensitivity disorders) with complications of diabetes mellitus in the form of diabetic polyneuropathy.

Contraindications

The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
Also contraindicated for people with fructose intolerance.

The dose is taken in 2 capsules of 300 mg each or 1 capsule of 600 mg of thioctic acid.
If food is taken earlier than 30 minutes later, it will complicate the absorption of the drug.
If the paresthesias are intense, then treatment begins with the infusion of the drug, then switch to oral administration.
The duration of the treatment course is 1-2 months.
During the entire course of treatment, blood sugar levels should be measured regularly, since taking thioctic acid can cause its decrease and hypoglycemic attacks.
It is possible to reduce the dose of insulin administered, depending on the blood sugar level.
At the beginning of the treatment course, a short-term increase in paresthesias in the form of “goose bumps” is possible.
