ATX code L03A X.
Pharmacological properties
The specified agent refers to preparations of immunomodulators of polypeptide origin.
The active ingredient is an extract of the thymus gland (thymus) obtained from cattle. The drug helps to restore the body’s immunological reactivity (reaction to pathogenic stimuli). When it enters the body, the active ingredient regulates the quantitative composition of B-lymphocytes and T-lymphocytes, as well as their ratio.
The drug is prescribed to stimulate immune responses at the cellular level. In this case, there is an increase in phagocytic activity (processes of active capture, apoptosis of pathogens with the participation of phagocytes). Under the influence of the drug, the processes of restoring hematopoiesis are stimulated, if they are subject to oppression and the metabolic processes in the cells are improved.
Indications
The drug Timalin is prescribed for the treatment of the following diseases:
- acute and chronic purulent-inflammatory diseases of bones and soft tissues;
- violation of regenerative processes (bone fractures, burns, frostbite, trophic ulcers, radiation tissue necrosis, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer);
- acute and chronic bacterial and viral infections, multiple sclerosis, atherosclerosis obliterans, rheumatoid arthritis;
- suppression of immunity and hematopoiesis after radiation therapy or chemotherapy, the use of large doses of antibiotics.
Contraindications
The drug in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components.
The drug is contraindicated in the presence of autoimmune diseases.
