Composition

active substances: levocarnitine and arginine hydrochloride;

1 ml of solution contains 42 mg of arginine hydrochloride and 20 mg of levocarnitine;

Pharmacological properties

This drug belongs to the group of amino acids containing levocarnitine and arginine.
Arginine is an active regulator of numerous vital functions of the body; in critical conditions it produces a protective effect. Produces antihypoxic, membrane stabilizing, cytoprotective, antioxidant, antiradical, detoxifying effect, maintains hormonal balance in the body.
Promotes an increase in the level of insulin, glucagon, somotropic hormone and prolactin in the blood, takes part in the synthesis of proline, polyamine, agmatine, sperm production. Plays an important role in other metabolic processes in the body, including during physical and mental stress.
Levocarnitine under natural conditions is independently produced by the liver, kidneys and human brain tissue, using such amino acids as lysine and methionine, as well as iron and ascorbic acid preparations.
Levocarnitine is the main cofactor in the metabolism of fatty acids in the muscles of the heart, skeleton and liver, therefore it is recommended for athletes. Plays important roles in other metabolic processes of the body, increases concentration.
It is able to remove metabolites and toxins from the cytoplasm, improves metabolism, including in hyperthyroidism. As a result, it helps to increase efficiency, accelerate growth, and increase muscle mass.
Due to the presence of levocarnitine, the symptoms of both physical and mental overstrain are reduced, and it has neuroprotective, hepatoprotective and cardioprotective effects.

Contraindications

Not applicable if the patient has hypersensitivity (allergy) to one of the components that make up the drug.
Also contraindicated for:

• severe renal dysfunction;
• hyperchloremic acidosis.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

It is not used to treat pregnant women (except in cases of absolute necessity).
If there is a need to take this drug, then lactation (breastfeeding) should be suspended during treatment.

Method of administration and dosage

The dosage and duration of treatment with Tivorel solution is prescribed by the attending physician on an individual basis. The required dose is determined depending on the specificity of metabolic disorders and the severity of the manifestations of the disease.
Usually, the drug is administered intravenously, drip, as an infusion, at a rate of 10 drops per minute for the first 10-15 minutes. After a quarter of an hour, an increase in the rate of infusion is allowed up to 30 drops per minute.
The daily dose is 100 ml.
In the course of treatment, tolerance and clinical response should be assessed.

Overdose

Overdose can cause:

• renal failure;
• hypoglycemia;
• metabolic acidosis;
• diarrhea.

It is recommended to stop the infusion, use saluretics, electrolyte solution.

Side effects

Therapy with this drug can cause side reactions in the form of:

• allergic reactions, dyspeptic disorders, epigastric pain, nausea;
• may cause stomach reaction as a laxative;
• joint pain;
• dry mouth, itching, allergic urticaria, angioedema;
• fluctuations in blood pressure, changes in heart rhythms;
• dizziness, feelings of fear, weakness, convulsions, tremors (if the injection rate is exceeded).
