Trimebutin is a synthetic agonist of peripheral opioid receptors m, d and k. The mechanism of action consists in direct action on the smooth muscles of the digestive tract and in the regulation of motor disorders without affecting the central nervous system. Unlike other opioids, trimebutin is not characterized by selectivity for one of the three types of receptors, due to which it can both enhance and suppress peristalsis. The process of normalization of motor skills begins 30 minutes after application of the drug.
