Description
Xipogama (Xipamid) Tablets 40 mg. №30
Composition
Active Ingredient: Each tablet contains Xipamid 40 mg.
Mechanism of Action
Xipamid, the active ingredient in Xipogama tablets, is a diuretic that acts by inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions in the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron. This leads to increased excretion of water and electrolytes, resulting in reduced blood volume and decreased blood pressure.
Pharmacological Properties
Xipamid is a sulfamoylbenzoic acid derivative with potent diuretic properties. It selectively inhibits the sodium-chloride symporter in the renal tubules, promoting diuresis and natriuresis. The onset of action is rapid, typically within 1-2 hours post-administration, with peak effects seen within 4 hours.
Indications for Use
Indications: Xipogama tablets are indicated for the management of hypertension (high blood pressure) and edema associated with conditions such as congestive heart failure, renal dysfunction, and liver cirrhosis.
Contraindications
Contraindications: Xipogama tablets are contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to Xipamid or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with anuria, severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min), or electrolyte disturbances such as hypokalemia.
Side Effects
Adverse effects associated with Xipogama may include dizziness, hypotension, electrolyte imbalances (e.g., hypokalemia, hyponatremia), dehydration, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and vomiting. Regular monitoring of electrolytes and renal function is advised during therapy.
Usage Instructions
Dosage: The typical adult dose is 40 mg once daily in the morning. Dosage adjustments may be necessary based on individual response and tolerability. The tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, preferably with food to enhance absorption.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Xipamid offers several advantages over other diuretics, including a lower risk of causing hypokalemia compared to thiazide diuretics. It has a rapid onset of action and a relatively long duration of diuretic effect, making it suitable for once-daily dosing and convenient for patients.
Suitable Patient Groups
Xipogama tablets are generally well-tolerated across different age groups, including adults, elderly patients, and individuals with mild to moderate renal impairment. However, caution is advised in patients with severe renal dysfunction or electrolyte abnormalities.
Storage and Shelf Life
- Storage: Keep Xipogama tablets at room temperature (15-30°C) in a dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight.
- Shelf Life: The shelf life of Xipogama tablets is typically 2 years from the date of manufacture. Check the packaging for the expiry date and do not use expired medication.
Packaging Description
