Composition

active substance: formoterole;

1 capsule contains formoterol fumarate dihydrate 12.5 mcg equivalent to formoterol fumarate 12 mcg;

Excipients: semi-micronized lactose monohydrate, micronized lactose monohydrate, gelatin.

Dosage form

Capsules containing powder for inhalation.

Main physical and chemical properties: hard transparent capsules with 2 cylindrical sections of size “3”, which contain white powder.

Pharmacological properties

This drug is used in the treatment of obstructive diseases of the lower respiratory tract.
Formoterol fumarate, the active ingredient, is a selective beta2-adrenoceptor agonist, which is characterized by a long-lasting effect that occurs soon after its application (within 1-3 minutes).
If the drug is used by inhalation, then within a few minutes there is a relaxation of the smooth muscles of the bronchial tree, which lasts for half a day.
This provides adequate control of breathing in the lower respiratory tract, which is especially important for those patients who suffer from reversible bronchial and pulmonary obstruction.
As a result, the symptoms of bronchial asthma are reduced.

Zafiron capsules Indications

This drug is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of asthma attacks in patients with asthma, COPD, emphysema.

Contraindications

This drug is not used if the patient has an allergy to one of its constituent substances, including excipients.
For the treatment of children can be used from 6 years of age.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

This drug can be used to treat pregnant women only if their lives are at risk and if the physician carefully weighs the benefit / harm ratio.
Lactation is suspended for the duration of treatment with this drug.

Zafiron capsules Method of application and dose

The drug is intended for regular use on a systematic basis. Not suitable for urgent relief of asthma attacks.
The drug is administered by inhalation of a dose of the drug in the form of microscopic doses of powder, using an inhaler. Use of the inhaler is explained in detail in the enclosed scheme-instruction.
The recommended dosage is 1-2 capsules 2 times a day.
It is desirable to switch to the minimum effective dose over time, inhaling 1 dose once a day.
In order for the drug to enter the respiratory throat when inhaled, it is necessary to:

•  shake the inhalation canister;
•  exhale as much air as possible from the lungs;
•  pressing the buttons of the inhaler, take a deep breath;
•  Hold your breath for as long as possible.

If the patient has previously had nocturnal attacks of bronchial asthma, this 1 dose is inhaled before going to sleep. If daytime attacks are more frequent, the dose of the drug is inhaled in the morning.
After use, rinse your mouth with water to avoid oral candidiasis.
Elderly patients and patients with renal or hepatic impairment do not require special dosage adjustments.
The drug should not be used at the same time as other beta-two-adrenoceptors to avoid overdose and unwanted side effects.

Zafiron capsules Overdose

Overdose of this drug is unlikely. Prolonged excessive ingestion of the drug can theoretically cause hypokalemia, tremor, adrenal dysfunction, which is reversible.
In this case, gastric lavage and sorbents are recommended.
Antidote unknown.

Side effects

The drug can cause side effects in the form of:

• candidiasis of the oral cavity;
• allergic reactions – angioneurotic edema, rash, shortness of breath, anaphylactic shock;
• oppression of the adrenal glands, reduced bone mineralization, growth retardation in children;
• hypokalemia, hyperkalemia, hyperglycemia;
• nausea, dyspeptic symptoms;
• nervousness, insomnia;
• headache, trembling limbs;
• cataracts, glaucoma;
• tachycardia, arrhythmias;
• bruises;
• muscle spasms, arthralgia, myalgia, limb fractures.
