Composition 

active substance: ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate;

1 ml of solution contains ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate 50 mg;

Excipients: sodium metabisulphite (E 223), water for injections.

Dosage form

Solution for injection.

Pharmacological properties

Zamexen belongs to the drugs that affect the nervous system, has nootropic, antihypoxic, anticonvulsant, stress-protective effects. The solution makes the body more resistant to various harmful factors: hypoxia and ischemia, alcohol intoxication, circulatory disorders in the brain, shock, intoxication with antipsychotics.

Indications for use

Zamexen solution is used to treat:

  •  acute circulatory disorders in the brain;
  •  dyscirculatory encephalopathy;
  •  traumatic brain injury or the consequences of these injuries;
  •  mild cognitive impairment of atherosclerotic origin;
  •  neurocirculatory dystonia;
  •  anxiety disorders, such as neurotic and neurosis-like states;
  •  acute myocardial infarction in complex treatment;
  •  primary open-angle glaucoma at different stages in complex treatment;
  •  acute poisoning by antipsychotic drugs;
  •  localization of the withdrawal syndrome in alcoholism with dominant autonomic-vascular and neurosis-like disorders;
  •  acute purulent inflammation in the abdominal cavity, such as acute necrotic pancreatitis, peritonitis in combination therapy.

Contraindications

Zamexen has contraindications to use: hypersensitivity reactions to the components of this drug, acute renal or hepatic insufficiency, childhood.

Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding

The use of Zamexen solution for pregnant women and during breastfeeding is not recommended and is not allowed.

Method of application and dose

Zamexen is a drug that is used intramuscularly or intravenously (jet or drip), the dose for each patient is selected individually. Dilute in 200 ml of saline.
The initial dose consists of 50-100 mg of the drug 1-3 times over a period of 24 hours, after which the dose is gradually increased. The maximum daily dose is not more than 800 mg. Zamexen is injected slowly for about 5-7 minutes, drip should occur at a rate of about 40-60 drops per minute.
The drug Zamexen for acute circulatory disorders in the brain is prescribed in the complex treatment of 200-300 mg of solution once a day intravenously, in the first 2-4 days of treatment. Then the solution is administered intramuscularly 100 mg of solution 3 times a day. The course of such a comprehensive treatment within two weeks.
At craniocerebral traumas and their consequences apply on 200-500 mg of a solution 2-4 times a day within the period of 10-15 days.
In dyscirculatory encephalopathy, the solution is injected into a vein drip or jet 100 mg 2-3 times over 24 hours over a period of two weeks. Then Zamexen is administered intramuscularly at 100 mg per day for another two weeks. In order to prevent dyscirculatory encephalopathy, the solution is used intramuscularly at 100 mg 2 times a day for 10-14 days.
For the treatment of mild cognitive impairment in elderly patients and in case of anxiety, the solution is administered intramuscularly at a dose of 100-300 mg per day for a period of two weeks to one month.
In acute myocardial infarction, the solution is administered intravenously or intramuscularly for 14 days in combination therapy. The first 5 days the drug is recommended to be administered intravenously, and the next 9 days you can use intramuscular injection. The introduction is carried out 3 times for 24 hours, with an interval of 8 hours. The daily dose is 6-9 mg of Zamexen per kilogram of body weight, a single dose – 2-3 mg / kg of body weight. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 800 mg, and a single dose – 250 mg.
In open-angle glaucoma, the solution is used in combination therapy. The solution is administered intramuscularly in a dosage of 100-300 mg 1-3 times a day for 2 weeks.
For the treatment of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, the solution is administered in a dosage of 100-200 mg intramuscularly 2-3 times a day or intravenously 1-2 times a day for 5-7 days.
At acute poisonings by antipsychotic means the solution is entered intravenously in a dosage of 50-300 mg a day within the period of 7-14 days.
In acute purulent inflammation in the abdomen, such as acute necrotic pancreatitis or peritonitis, the solution is prescribed on the first day before and after surgery. The dose is determined depending on the course of the disease. It is necessary to finish treatment by drug gradually.
In acute edematous pancreatitis, the solution is prescribed in a dosage of 100 mg 3 times within 24 hours intravenously and intramuscularly. The drug is diluted with isotonic sodium chloride solution. If the severity of the disease is moderate, then the dose is 200 mg 3 times within 24 hours intravenously. In the complex form of the disease, the dose is 800 mg on the first day with double administration, then apply 300 mg 2 times in 24 hours, gradually reducing the dose.

Overdose

Intoxication with Zamexen solution may cause drowsiness, in which case detoxification treatment should be performed.

Side effects

The use of Zamexen in rare cases can cause side effects in the form of: incoordination, nausea, emotional reactivity, allergic reactions, drowsiness, falling asleep, dry mouth, headaches, anxiety, distal hyperhidrosis, blood pressure may rise or decrease.
