Description
Carvium (Carvedilol) Tablets 25 mg. №30
Composition
The active ingredient in Carvium is carvedilol. Each tablet contains 25 mg of carvedilol.
Mechanism of Action
Carvedilol is a non-selective beta-blocker and alpha-1 blocker. It works by blocking certain neurotransmitters, reducing heart rate and blood pressure, and improving blood flow through the arteries, thereby reducing the workload on the heart.
Pharmacological Properties
Carvedilol exhibits both beta-blocking and vasodilatory properties. It also has antioxidant effects and has been shown to improve cardiac function in heart failure patients.
Indications for Use
Carvium is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, and prevention of heart attacks in adult patients.
Contraindications
Carvium is contraindicated in patients with severe heart failure (NYHA class IV), bronchial asthma, second- or third-degree AV block, sick sinus syndrome, or severe bradycardia.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Carvium may include dizziness, fatigue, low blood pressure, and fluid retention. Rare but serious side effects may include worsening heart failure, bronchospasm, and liver toxicity.
Usage Instructions
The recommended starting dose of Carvium is 12.5 mg once daily. This may be increased to 25 mg once daily after 2 weeks. The tablets should be taken with food and swallowed whole with a glass of water.
Benefits Compared to Analogs
Carvium offers the advantage of combined beta-blocking and vasodilatory effects, making it beneficial for patients with both hypertension and heart failure. Its antioxidant properties also contribute to its cardioprotective effects.
Suitable Patient Groups
Carvium is suitable for adult patients with hypertension and heart failure. Dosing adjustments may be necessary in elderly patients or those with impaired renal function.
Storage and Shelf Life
Carvium tablets should be stored at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. The shelf life of Carvium is typically 2 years from the date of manufacture.
Packaging Description
Carvium tablets are typically packaged in blister packs of 30 tablets each. The packaging is designed to protect the tablets from environmental factors and maintain their stability.
