Description
Enap (Enalapril Maleate) Tablets 5 mg. №20
Composition
Enalapril maleate is the active ingredient in Enap tablets. Each tablet contains 5 mg of enalapril maleate along with inactive ingredients.
Mechanism of Action
Enalapril works by inhibiting the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), which plays a crucial role in regulating blood pressure and fluid balance in the body. By blocking ACE, enalapril helps dilate blood vessels, reduce blood pressure, and improve heart function.
Pharmacological Properties
Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that exerts its antihypertensive effects by preventing the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This action leads to vasodilation, decreased aldosterone secretion, and reduced sodium reabsorption, ultimately lowering blood pressure and improving cardiac function.
Indications for Use
Enap tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, and to improve survival following a heart attack.
Contraindications
Do not take Enap tablets if you are allergic to enalapril or any other ACE inhibitors. It is contraindicated in pregnancy and in patients with a history of angioedema.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Enap may include dizziness, cough, hypotension, and hyperkalemia. Serious side effects such as angioedema and renal impairment may occur but are rare. Consult your healthcare provider if you experience any adverse reactions.
Usage Instructions
Take Enap tablets exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. The recommended dosage is 5 mg once daily. Dosage may vary depending on individual response. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Enalapril has been widely studied and proven effective in managing hypertension and heart failure. Compared to other ACE inhibitors, Enalapril is well-tolerated and has a lower risk of certain side effects such as cough. Its efficacy in improving cardiac function and reducing mortality rates in heart failure patients sets it apart from other antihypertensive medications.
Suitable Patient Groups
Enap tablets are suitable for adult patients with hypertension, heart failure, or a history of myocardial infarction. It is generally safe for use in elderly patients but should be used with caution in individuals with impaired renal function. Enap is not recommended for use in children.
Storage and Shelf Life
Store Enap tablets in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the tablets in their original packaging to protect them from environmental factors. Check the expiration date on the packaging and do not use expired medication.
Packaging Description
Enap tablets are packaged in blister packs containing 20 tablets each. The packaging is designed to maintain the stability and integrity of the tablets until they are ready to be taken.
Clinical Evidence and Proven Effectiveness
Enalapril, the active ingredient in Enap tablets, has been extensively studied for its efficacy in managing hypertension and heart failure. Clinical trials have shown that enalapril effectively lowers blood pressure and improves cardiac function in patients with heart failure.
