Description
Lamotrin-50 Tablets 50 mg. №60
Ingredients:
Each tablet contains 50 mg of Lamotrigine.
Mechanism of Action:
Lamotrigine, the active ingredient in Lamotrin-50 tablets, modulates voltage-gated sodium channels, inhibiting the release of glutamate and aspartate. By stabilizing neuronal membranes and reducing abnormal electrical activity in the brain, it exerts anticonvulsant and mood-stabilizing effects.
Pharmacological Properties:
Lamotrigine exhibits antiepileptic properties by prolonging the inactivated state of voltage-gated sodium channels. It also modulates release of excitatory neurotransmitters, contributing to its mood-stabilizing effects in bipolar disorder.
Indications for Use:
Lamotrin-50 tablets are indicated for the management of epilepsy as adjunctive therapy or monotherapy. They are also prescribed for the maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder to delay mood episodes.
Contraindications:
Avoid Lamotrin-50 tablets if hypersensitive to lamotrigine or any excipients in the formulation. Use caution in patients with a history of severe cutaneous adverse reactions to other antiepileptic drugs.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, nausea, and somnolence. Serious adverse reactions may include aseptic meningitis, suicidal ideation, and multi-organ hypersensitivity reactions. Regular monitoring is essential to detect and manage adverse events.
Usage Instructions:
Administer Lamotrin-50 tablets orally, with or without food, as directed by a healthcare provider. Initiate therapy at a low dose, gradually titrating to the effective maintenance dose. Avoid crushing or chewing the tablets.
Benefits Compared to Analogues:
Lamotrin-50 tablets offer a favorable safety profile and lower risk of drug interactions compared to older antiepileptic agents. Their once-daily dosing regimen enhances patient compliance and simplifies treatment regimens.
Suitable Patient Groups:
Lamotrin-50 tablets are suitable for pediatric and adult populations with epilepsy or bipolar disorder. Dosing adjustments may be necessary in elderly patients due to age-related changes in drug metabolism.
Storage Conditions and Shelf Life:
Store Lamotrin-50 tablets at controlled room temperature away from moisture and light. Check the expiry date on the packaging and do not use expired tablets. Keep out of reach of children.
Packaging Description:
Lamotrin-50 tablets are supplied in blister packs of 60 tablets each. The packaging is designed to protect the tablets from environmental factors and maintain their stability until use.
Scientific Evidence:
Lamotrigine has demonstrated efficacy in reducing seizure frequency and preventing mood episodes in controlled clinical trials. Studies have shown its favorable tolerability profile and effectiveness in diverse patient populations.
Additional Information:
Patient adherence to the prescribed dosage regimen is crucial for optimal treatment outcomes. Abrupt discontinuation of Lamotrin-50 tablets can precipitate withdrawal seizures or mood destabilization. Patients should be educated about potential side effects and advised to report any concerning symptoms promptly.
