Molescin C (mometasone) Ointment 0.1% 15 g Tube

Ingredients

  • Molescin C ointment contains the active ingredient mometasone furoate 0.1%, a potent corticosteroid.
  • Inactive ingredients include propylene glycol, mineral oil, and white petrolatum.

Dosage

Apply a thin layer of Molescin C ointment to the affected skin once daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Avoid using it on the face, underarms, or groin area unless instructed otherwise.

Indications

Molescin C ointment is indicated for the relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses such as eczema, psoriasis, and allergic reactions.

Contraindications

Do not use Molescin C ointment if you are allergic to mometasone or any of the ingredients in the product. It is not recommended for use on broken or infected skin.

Directions

Clean and dry the affected area before applying the ointment. Gently rub a small amount into the skin until it disappears. Wash hands after application unless the hands are the treated area.

Scientific Evidence

Mometasone exerts its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in target cells. Studies have shown its efficacy in reducing inflammation and itching associated with skin conditions. Research in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology demonstrated its effectiveness in treating eczema and psoriasis.

Additional Information

  • Follow the prescribed dosage and treatment duration to avoid potential side effects.
  • Long-term use may lead to skin thinning, discoloration, or other adverse reactions.
  • Consult a healthcare provider if symptoms persist or worsen.

Pharmacological Effects

Mometasone inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators and suppresses the immune response in the skin, reducing redness, swelling, and itching.

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials have shown mometasone ointment to be well-tolerated and effective in managing dermatological conditions. Superior efficacy compared to other topical corticosteroids was demonstrated in the treatment of eczema in a study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
