Scientific Evidence:
Nifedipine, a calcium channel blocker, effectively reduces blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, improving blood flow, and reducing the workload on the heart. Studies published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) support its efficacy in managing hypertension and angina.
Additional Information:
It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not discontinue the medication abruptly. Before starting nifedipine, especially if you have liver or kidney problems, consult your healthcare provider. Inform your doctor about all medications you are currently taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
Nifedipine’s pharmacological action involves blocking calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle cells, leading to vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. This mechanism helps in reducing blood pressure and improving coronary blood flow, making it a valuable option in the management of cardiovascular conditions.
