Scientific Evidence
Studies have shown that acetylsalicylic acid, the active ingredient in Asafen tablets, exerts its effects by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are involved in the inflammatory response. This mechanism of action contributes to the drug’s analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties.
Additional Information
It is important to note that Asafen tablets should not be used in children under 12 years of age without medical supervision. Additionally, long-term use of high doses of acetylsalicylic acid may increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulcers and bleeding.
Pharmacological Effects
Acetylsalicylic acid, the main component of Asafen tablets, works by irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase, thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins. This action leads to decreased pain, inflammation, and fever. Moreover, aspirin has antiplatelet effects, making it beneficial in preventing cardiovascular events.
Clinical Trials and Comparative Effectiveness
In a comparative study by Smith et al., Asafen tablets were found to be as effective as other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in relieving pain and inflammation with a lower risk of adverse gastrointestinal effects. This highlights the favorable efficacy and safety profile of Asafen in comparison to similar medications.
