Description
Cardipril (Ramipril) Capsules 5 mg. №30
Composition
Each Cardipril capsule contains 5 mg of ramipril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. The other ingredients include lactose monohydrate, pregelatinized starch, and magnesium stearate.
Mechanism of Action
Ramipril inhibits ACE, an enzyme involved in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. By inhibiting ACE, ramipril reduces the production of angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, leading to vasodilation and decreased secretion of aldosterone. This mechanism results in decreased peripheral resistance, reduced blood pressure, and improved cardiac function.
Pharmacological Properties
Ramipril is rapidly absorbed after oral administration. It undergoes hepatic metabolism to its active metabolite ramiprilat. The elimination half-life of ramiprilat allows for once-daily dosing. Ramipril has been shown to effectively lower blood pressure, improve cardiac output, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.
Indications for Use
Cardipril is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and heart failure. Additionally, it is prescribed to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attack in high-risk patients.
Contraindications
- Cardipril is contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to ramipril or any other ACE inhibitor.
- It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor therapy.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Cardipril include cough, dizziness, hypotension, and hyperkalemia. Rare but serious side effects may include angioedema, renal impairment, and neutropenia. Patients should seek medical attention if they experience severe or persistent side effects.
Usage Instructions
The recommended starting dose of Cardipril is 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily. Dosage adjustments should be made based on individual patient response. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 10 mg. Cardipril can be taken with or without food at the same time each day. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered, unless it is close to the next scheduled dose.
Benefits Compared to Analogues
Cardipril offers the advantage of once-daily dosing, which enhances patient compliance and convenience. Its proven efficacy in lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiovascular risk makes it a preferred choice for many healthcare providers.
Suitable Patient Groups
Cardipril is suitable for use in adult patients with hypertension, heart failure, or high cardiovascular risk. It is generally well-tolerated in elderly patients and can be used cautiously in children under appropriate medical supervision.
Storage and Shelf Life
Cardipril capsules should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat. The shelf life of the product is typically indicated on the packaging and should be checked before use.
Packaging Description
Cardipril is available in blister packs containing 30 capsules. The packaging should be intact and undamaged prior to use. Each capsule is individually sealed for protection and should be handled with clean hands.
