Scientific Evidence:
Escitalopram, the active ingredient in Depresan, is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays a key role in regulating mood and emotions. Several studies have demonstrated the efficacy of escitalopram in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders.
Additional Information:
It is important to continue taking Depresan as prescribed even if you feel well. Abruptly stopping the medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms. Consult your healthcare provider before discontinuing the use of Depresan.
Pharmacological Effects:
Escitalopram works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, leading to increased levels of this neurotransmitter in the brain. This mechanism helps improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. The drug’s effects are gradual and may take a few weeks to be fully noticeable.
Clinical Trials and Comparative Effectiveness:
In a comparative study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, escitalopram was found to be more effective and better tolerated than other SSRIs in the treatment of major depressive disorder. The study highlighted the superior efficacy and tolerability profile of escitalopram compared to other antidepressants.
