Ketonal Capsules 50 mg. №25 vial

Ingredients

The active ingredient in Ketonal Capsules is Ketoprofen 50 mg. Ketoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase, thereby reducing the production of prostaglandins which are mediators of pain and inflammation.

Mechanism of Action

Ketoprofen exerts its pharmacological effects by inhibiting both COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, leading to decreased formation of prostaglandins involved in inflammation, pain, and fever.

Pharmacological Properties

Ketoprofen exhibits analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It is rapidly and well absorbed after oral administration, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 1-2 hours. The drug is highly protein-bound and undergoes hepatic metabolism followed by renal excretion.

Indications for Use

Ketonal Capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with:

  • Arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis
  • Acute gout
  • Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)

Contraindications

Ketonal Capsules are contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to ketoprofen or any other component of the formulation. It should not be used in patients with active peptic ulcer disease, severe heart failure, or a history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions to aspirin or other NSAIDs.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Ketonal Capsules may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as dyspepsia, abdominal pain, and gastritis. Other adverse reactions can involve the renal, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems. Long-term use of NSAIDs like ketoprofen may increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulcers and bleeding.

Usage Instructions

The recommended dosage of Ketonal Capsules for adults is one 50 mg capsule taken orally 2-3 times daily with food. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 200 mg. It is important to adhere to the prescribed dose and duration of treatment to minimize the risk of adverse effects.

Benefits Compared to Analogues

Ketonal Capsules offer the advantage of a potent NSAID with a relatively favorable gastrointestinal safety profile compared to some other NSAIDs. The drug’s efficacy in managing pain and inflammation in various musculoskeletal conditions has been well-established in clinical practice.

Suitable Patient Groups

Ketonal Capsules are suitable for use in adult patients, including the elderly, for the management of acute and chronic inflammatory conditions. The drug is not recommended for use in children without medical supervision due to the risks associated with NSAID therapy in pediatric populations.

Storage and Shelf Life

Ketonal Capsules should be stored at room temperature (20-25°C) in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. The shelf life of the product is typically 2-3 years from the manufacturing date. Do not use the capsules after the expiration date printed on the packaging.

Packaging Description
