Pharmacological properties
Liprimar 20 is a synthetic hypolipidemic drug. Atorvastatin is an inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate – the initial and limiting stage of cholesterol biosynthesis.
Liprimar is a selective competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme that determines the rate of conversion of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A to mevalonate, a precursor of sterols, including cholesterol.
Indications
Liprimar 20 is used to treat patients with elevated levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, apo-lipoprotein B, and triglycerides. Liprimar is used in the treatment of patients in whom diet and exercise did not allow achieving the desired therapeutic effect.

When the drug is prescribed, its amount can vary from 10 to 80 mg per day. The choice of the required dose of the agent takes into account the initial LDL-C. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 80 mg. In the course of treatment, the dose is adjusted every two 2 or 4 weeks while monitoring the level of lipids in the blood plasma.
