Description
Macropen composition
active substance: midecamycin;
1 film-coated tablet contains 400 mg of midecamycin;
Excipients: potassium polyacryline, talc, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, acrylate copolymer, polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide (E 171).
Dosage form
Film-coated tablets.
Pharmacological properties
Macropen belongs to the group of macrolide antibiotics. Has a wide range of effects on microorganisms of different origins – gram-positive, gram-negative and intracellular pathogens.
For oral administration. It is rapidly absorbed and acts already after 60-120 minutes after ingestion.
It concentrates maximally and effectively at the site of inflammation, in the bronchi and skin.
The withdrawal of the drug from the body occurs through the liver.
Indication
Respiratory and genitourinary infections caused by mycoplasmas, legionella, chlamydia and Ureaplasma urealyticum; respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections and other infections caused by bacteria sensitive to midecamycin and penicillin in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillin; enteritis caused by Campylobacter spp .; treatment and prevention of diphtheria and pertussis.
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to midecamycin or to any of the excipients, severe liver dysfunction.
Children
The drug in this dosage form should be used in children weighing more than 30 kg.
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
No adverse effects of midecamycin on the fetus have been reported. Use during pregnancy is possible only in extreme cases, when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus.
Because the drug passes into breast milk, breast-feeding should be discontinued during treatment with the drug.
Method of application and dosage
The drug should be used before meals.
- Adults and children weighing more than 30 kg: 1 tablet of 400 mg 3 times a day.
The maximum daily dose for adults is 1600 mg of midecamycin. - Children weighing less than 30 kg: apply the suspension for oral administration.
The treatment lasts from 7 to 14 days. Treatment of chlamydial infection should be continued for 14 days.
Overdose
No information on overdose. Nausea and vomiting are possible when taking doses that exceed the therapeutic ones. Treatment is symptomatic.
Side effects
- From the blood and lymphatic system: eosinophilia.
- From the gastrointestinal tract: nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, stomatitis, abdominal pain, pseudomembranous colitis.
- On the skin and subcutaneous tissue: rash, urticaria and pruritus, angioneurotic edema, Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
- From the liver and biliary tract: increased levels of transaminases and jaundice.
- General disorders: hypersensitivity reactions, including hyperemia; general weakness; dizziness.
Expiration date
3 years.
Storage conditions
Store Macropen at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C in the original package. Keep out of reach of children.
