Monural composition
active substance: fosfomycin;
1 package contains fosfomycin trometamol 5.631 g, which is equivalent to 3.0 g of fosfomycin;
excipients: mandarin flavoring, orange flavoring, saccharin, sucrose.
Dosage form
Granules for oral solution.
Pharmacological properties
A family of broad spectrum antibiotics with high concentrations in the bladder.
The main active ingredient is a derivative of phosphonic acid.
Affects bacteria.
During laboratory studies, the scope of action of Monural was identified – most of the usual gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
It is rapidly absorbed, begins to act actively two hours after ingestion.
Usually, one dose of the drug is sufficient for treatment, since it remains in the body for up to 80 hours. It is excreted from the body mainly in the urine.
Indications:
- acute bacterial cystitis, acute attacks of recurrent bacterial cystitis;
- bacterial nonspecific urethritis;
- asymptomatic massive bacteriuria in pregnant women;
- postoperative urinary tract infections;

Contraindications
Contraindicated for use in patients with severe renal failure. Personal intolerance to any component of the drug.
It is prescribed with caution in children under 12 years of age.

Children
It can be used to treat acute uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections in girls over 12 years of age.
There are insufficient data on the use of the drug for therapeutic purposes in boys over 12 years of age, as well as sufficient data on the use of the drug for prophylactic purposes in both boys and girls.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
The drug is usually not prescribed to pregnant and lactating women, since there is a high risk to the child.
The exceptions are cases when there is a threat to a woman’s life. For the period of lactation, it is necessary to stop breastfeeding.
Despite the fact that laboratory studies do not confirm teratogenic or fetotoxic effects on the fetus.
Method of application and dosage
Monural is administered orally on an empty stomach, preferably at bedtime, after emptying the bladder. The contents of the package are dissolved in 1 cup of water and immediately drink the prepared solution.
Concomitant meals slow down the absorption of fosfomycin. Therefore, it is desirable to use the drug on an empty stomach or 2-3 hours after a meal.
The drug in this dosage (3 g) is used according to the indications of patients weighing more than 50 kg.

Adults weighing 50 kg 1 pack of Monural 3 g 3 hours before and 24 hours after the procedure.
Overdose
The risk of overdose is practically zero. If you accidentally take large doses of the drug, you should drink as much water as possible.
In case of an overdose, the patient has an upset stomach (diarrhea).
Less often – disorders of the vestibular system, hearing impairment. A metallic taste appears in the mouth.
Side effects
The most common side effects of the drug are diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, heartburn, allergic reactions, and rash.
Women may experience vulvovaginitis.
Fatigue, headache and dizziness are quite common.
Storage conditions
Monural is stored for 3 years at a temperature not exceeding 30 C.
