Description

Norfloxacin composition and form of release
Active ingredient: norfloxacin.
Available in tablet form (400 mg).

Pharmacological properties
It is a synthetic antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone group. Its active component disrupts the synthesis of bacterial DNA by inhibiting the enzyme DNA gyrase.

Indications

Contraindications
In case of hypersensitivity to norfloxacin, as well as other drugs related to quinolones.
With the simultaneous use of this medication with drugs that have a pronounced hypotensive effect (it is important to consider that such a combination of drugs can cause a sharp drop in blood pressure). Taking with antiepileptic drugs can cause the patient to develop epileptiform seizures.
When administered together with barbiturates, anesthetics, it is necessary to constantly monitor the level of blood pressure, heart rate in the patient.

Children
Used in pediatrics for children over 15 years old.

Application during pregnancy and lactation
Application during pregnancy is possible if the need for treatment of the mother significantly outweighs the possible harm to the fetus.
It is not known whether or not the active substance (norfloxacin) is able to penetrate into breast milk, therefore, when it is prescribed to women during lactation, it is recommended to stop breastfeeding (during therapy).

Method of administration and dosage
Norfloxacin is administered orally.
Before starting treatment, it is recommended to determine the degree of sensitivity to norfloxacin of the microflora that caused the disease.
As a starting dose, 400 mg is prescribed twice a day. The maximum allowable daily dose is 1500 mg. The duration of treatment is on average 7 to 14 days, however, in the treatment of severe infections, the course can be extended.
When using the drug for the treatment of patients on hemodialysis, dosage adjustment is required.
When used simultaneously with antacids, a decrease in the intensity of absorption of the active substance may be observed. In this regard, Norfloxacin-Health is prescribed 1 – 2 hours before or 4 hours after taking antacid drugs.

Overdose
Acute intoxication due to an overdose is accompanied by the appearance of nausea / vomiting, increased drowsiness, and the development of convulsive syndrome.
Treatment: emergency gastric lavage, prescribing an abundant drink, adequate supportive and symptomatic treatment.

Side effects
Possible nausea, heartburn, increased fatigue, sleep disturbances, severe irritability, headaches, dizziness, allergic reactions.

Storage conditions and periods
Norfloxacin should be stored in a dry and dark place at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees Celsius. The shelf life is three years. Parents must keep their children safe by limiting their access to medicines.
