Pharmacological properties
The main active ingredient of Nurofen Long is ibuprofen, a non-steroidal analgesic anti-inflammatory agent, the effect of which is based on slowing down the synthesis of prostaglandins. The substance inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins in tissues by suppressing the activity of cyclooxygenase, which stimulates the production of prostaglandins from arachidonic acid.
The mechanism of action of paracetamol is not fully defined, but there is evidence to conclude that it has an analgesic effect on the central nervous system. In addition, biochemical studies indicate that it inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase in the central nervous system. It was also found that it stimulates the descending pathways of activation of 5-hydroxytryptamine, which helps to inhibit the transmission of pain impulses in the spinal cord.
