Olfen composition
The main active ingredient is sodium diclofenac. Additional components – lactic acid, isopropyl alcohol, purified water, etc.

Release form
It goes on sale in the form of a 1% sodium diclofenac gel, packaged in glass bottles with a plastic roller, 50 grams each.

Pharmacological properties
Olfen is a local non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used for joint and muscle pain, based on diclofenac sodium.
The main active ingredient of this drug has analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects.
The mechanism of action is due to the ability of diclofenac to inhibit the biosynthesis of prostaglandins.

Indications
The drug Olfen has the property of inhibiting the symptoms of acute and chronic inflammation in tissues, relieves pain and eliminates hyperemia.
This drug Olfen is used for the symptomatic treatment of pain, inflammation and edema that occurs when:

  • damage to soft tissues – injuries to tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints due to dislocations, sprains, hematomas, sports injuries;
  • localized forms of soft tissue rheumatism – tendinitis, including “tennis elbow”, bursitis, shoulder syndrome and periarthropathy, localized forms of degenerative rheumatism (osteoarthritis of the peripheral joints and spine).

It has been shown to be used in juvenile rheumatoid, psoriatic arthritis, gout attacks, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, polymyalgia rheumatica, systemic lupus, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis.
Topical use of diclofenac quickly eliminates pain and early immobilization of joints, reduces edema, and improves motor activity of the locomotor system. This allows you to reduce the dose of analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which are simultaneously prescribed when taken orally.

Contraindications
Use is contraindicated in the presence of hypersensitivity to the active substance, acetylsalicylic acid, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or one of the auxiliary components of the drug.
Do not use if there is a likelihood of bronchial asthma attacks, urticaria or acute rhinitis caused by taking acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in history.
It is not applied to the skin, which has impaired integrity, as well as to wound surfaces, the appearance of eczema. Do not apply under occlusive dressings.

Children
It is permissible to use from 18 years of age.

Application during pregnancy and lactation
It is contraindicated to use in pregnant women, especially in the 3rd trimester.
Breastfeeding should be discontinued during treatment with this drug.

Method of administration and dosage
Apply the required amount of Olfen to the skin over the affected area. The amount of gel depends on the area of ​​the affected surface – the larger the area, the more the gel should be squeezed out (4-8 centimeters). Most often, 2-4 grams of gel is enough to be applied to a skin surface of 400-800 square centimeters.
Gently rub the drug into the skin, then be sure to thoroughly wash your hands (except for cases when the hands themselves need treatment).
The drug is applied up to 3-4 times a day, at regular time intervals, but not more than 15 grams per day.
It can be used with drugs that also contain diclofenac, but in other forms.
The duration of treatment should not exceed 10 days.
If, after a week of treatment, the symptoms have not stopped, consultation with your doctor is necessary.

Overdose
There are practically no overdose risks.
In case of accidental oral administration, symptomatic treatment should be carried out – gastric lavage, intake of sorbents.

Side effects
Taking this medication may cause some side effects. In particular, the treatment process may be accompanied by the appearance of:

  • skin reactions at the site of application of the drug in the form of itching, dryness, hyperemia, burning sensation, contact dermatitis;
  • generalized skin reactions – urticaria, angioedema, photosensitivity, bullous dermatitis;
  • dyspeptic symptoms, abdominal pain, gastrointestinal disorders;
  • bronchospasm, bronchial asthma, allergic reactions.
  • Side effects can be avoided by reducing the dosage of the drug.
