Indications
Designed for the treatment of depression of various etiologies. It is used to treat reactive atypical hypostpsychotic depression as well as diysthymia. The drug shows high activity in the treatment of obsessive compulsions, panic attacks, agoraphobia, social phobias, nightmares and anxiety disorders of various etiologies.
In addition, there is evidence that the drug has a pronounced anti-relapse effect in the treatment of anxiety-phobic states. Also, when using the drug, there is a positive trend in the treatment of diseases, the therapy of which was ineffective with standard antidepressants. In addition, Paroxetin treatment is indicated for patients who have stress disorders in the post-traumatic period. The drug is intended for long-term treatment and for short courses.
Contraindications
Not prescribed if the patient has an individual intolerance to its components. In addition, the drug is not used if the patient is being treated with MAO inhibitors. The use of the drug is possible only two weeks after stopping treatment with MAO inhibitors. Also, it cannot be used to treat a patient in combination with Thioridazine.
Children
The drug is not used to treat children under 17 years of age.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
Not used for the treatment of pregnant women at a later date. The thing is that newborns whose mothers received treatment with the drug may experience apnea, cyanosis, distress syndrome, convulsive reactions, vomiting, hyperexcitability, tremor, unstable body temperature, and labile blood pressure. Despite the fact that Paroxetin does not have a teratogenic effect, it is used for the treatment of pregnant women only in extreme cases.
Method of administration and dosage
Intended for oral administration. The drug is taken in the morning without chewing and drinking a little water.
For the treatment of depression, 20 mg r / s are prescribed. If the minimum dose does not allow achieving the desired therapeutic effect, then the dose of the drug can be increased daily by 10 mg until the patient’s condition stabilizes. When treating Paroxetin , after 2 – 3 weeks of taking the drug, the dose must be adjusted to achieve the maximum therapeutic effect. The effluent dose of the drug should not exceed 50 mg.
Overdose
When using the drug in high doses, the patient may develop nausea, vomiting, asthenia, excessive agitation, convulsions, dizziness, urinary retention, changes in heart rate, confusion, aggression, manic reaction and coma. In case of an overdose, it is recommended to immediately perform a gastric lavage for the patient and prescribe the intake of adsorbents. In addition, the patient undergoes symptomatic treatment to maintain normal vital signs.
Side effects
When taken, some patients may experience emotional lability, insomnia, asthenia, drowsiness, headaches, depersonalization, increased depression, increased sweating, anemia, decreased libido, impaired urination, ejaculation disorders, allergic reactions and weight gain.
Storage conditions and periods
Store in a dry, dark place. The shelf life of the drug does not exceed 3 years.
