Additional Information
It is important to note that prolonged use of nimesulide may increase the risk of adverse effects such as gastrointestinal ulcers and cardiovascular events. Consult your healthcare provider before starting this medication, especially if you have a history of gastrointestinal disorders or cardiovascular disease.
Pharmacological Effects: Nimesulide exerts its pharmacological actions by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby reducing the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins. This mechanism helps alleviate pain and inflammation in various conditions.
Clinical Trials: A meta-analysis published in the Journal of Clinical Rheumatology compared the effectiveness of nimesulide with other NSAIDs in the management of rheumatic diseases. The study concluded that nimesulide showed comparable efficacy and safety profiles to other commonly used NSAIDs.
