Pharmacological properties
Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic. The mechanism of action is due mainly to the selective suppression of cyclooxygenase-2, which leads to inhibition of the biosynthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins in the focus of inflammation. Due to the low affinity for cyclooxygenase-1, the drug in therapeutic doses does not adversely affect the biosynthesis of cytoprotective prostaglandins in the gastrointestinal tract and kidneys, and does not inhibit the functional activity of platelets. It is a chondroneutral drug that does not affect the synthesis of proteoglycan by articular cartilage chondrocytes.
