Stopdiar (nifuroxazide) hard capsules 200 mg. №12
Composition
active substance: 1 hard capsule contains 200 mg of nifuroxazide;
excipients: corn starch, pregelatinized starch, sucrose, magnesium stearate;
hard capsule: gelatin, titanium dioxide (E 171), iron oxide yellow (E 172).
Dosage form
Hard capsules.
Main physical and chemical properties: hard capsules, gelatin, cylindrical, yellow. The granules contained in the capsule are yellow.

Antidiarrheal drugs; drugs used to treat infectious and inflammatory bowel diseases. Antimicrobials used in intestinal infections.

Pharmacological properties
It is an antimicrobial medication. The active ingredient inhibits the activity of the enzyme dehydrogenase in bacteria, disrupting protein production. This drug is effective against most pathogens of intestinal infections. Has a local antibacterial effect (activated in the intestinal lumen). Effective against some types of pathogenic bacteria of the Staphylococcus family (staphylococci), Enterobacteriaceae family of Escherichia spp., Citobacter spp., Yersinia spp., Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp., Enterobacter spp. In medium doses, it exhibits a bacteriostatic effect (stops the growth of bacteria), and in higher doses, it is bactericidal (kills bacteria).
Indications
Stopdiar is used for acute diarrhea (loose and frequent stools) of infectious origin.
Contraindications
Stopdiar should not be used:
- if you are allergic to nitrofuran derivatives;
- with intolerance to excipients;
- children from six years old.
Application during pregnancy and lactation
There are no sufficient reliable data on fetotoxic (causing fetal poisoning), teratogenic (causing the development of deformities) effects. Therefore, the appointment of this medication for pregnant women is not recommended.
It is allowed to prescribe the drug to women during breastfeeding (subject to short-term therapy).
Method of administration and dosage
Stopdiar should be taken orally with water. Reception is not tied to food intake.
Adult patients, children over fifteen years of age are prescribed 200 mg up to four times a day. Children from six years of age are prescribed 200 mg three to four times a day.
The maximum daily dose is 800 mg.
The duration of the treatment course should not exceed seven days. If during this time the symptoms do not disappear, it is necessary to reconsider the diagnosis and treatment regimen.
Treatment must be combined with the appointment of a dietary regimen, rehydration measures (restoration of the volume of body fluids). If diarrhea (loose stools) does not stop within three days from the start of treatment, you should consult a doctor.
Overdose
Symptoms: diarrhea, drowsiness.
In case of overdose, it is recommended to discontinue treatment, carry out gastric lavage (within an hour after poisoning), supportive and symptomatic treatment.
Side effects:
- Immune disorders: allergic reactions, including Quincke’s edema (swelling of the lips, face, tongue), pruritus, urticaria, anaphylactic shock, airway obstruction, itching, skin rashes.
- Digestive disorders: exacerbation of diarrhea, temporary abdominal pain, nausea.
- Skin changes: itching, rashes, palmar-plantar pustules, urticaria.
In the event of adverse reactions, it is necessary to stop taking the medication and further avoid the use of nitrofuran derivatives.
