Pharmacological properties
The syrup contains extracts of thyme and plantain, which provide mucolytic, antitussive, expectorant, secretomotor and anti-inflammatory effects. The drug acts on the surface of the mucous membranes, especially the respiratory tract, reducing the viscosity of sputum, thereby separating it from the walls of the mucous membrane and modulating cough. Stoptussin Fito-Teva syrup also has antiseptic and disinfectant action (mainly due to thyme). The drug also showed antibacterial and antifungal activity in in vitro testing on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi and yeast, mainly due to thymol and carvacrol contained in the essential oil. The effect of the drug is confirmed by pharmacological data, comparative and observational clinical studies.
