Composition

active substances: 100 g of syrup (81.3 ml) contain liquid extract of thyme (Thymus vulgaris) (1: 1), extractant – ethanol 96%, purified water, glycerin 85% (6: 18: 1)) – 7 , 53 g; liquid extract of plantain lanceolate (Folia Plantaginis lanceolata) (1: 1) (extractant – ethanol 36%) – 7.53 g;

Excipients: sucrose, glycerin 85%, caramel, sodium benzoate (E 211), purified water.

Dosage form

Syrup.

Main physical and chemical properties: clear dark brown liquid with a sweet pleasant taste.

Pharmacological properties

Tusavit syrup is included in the group of complex herbal preparations used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, colds, characterized by cough.
The main active ingredients are extracts of medicinal plants – thyme, plantain. Plantain has a bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect.
Since ancient times, thyme has been considered a divine herb with unique medicinal properties, in its composition – thymol (antihelminthic, disinfectant and analgesic effect), is effective as an expectorant, disinfectant, and also a mild anti-inflammatory agent.
The drug also owes its action to the presence of essential oils and many minerals and vitamins in these plants, in particular coumarins, carotene, flavonoids, tocopherols and tannins.

Indications

Tusavit syrup is used for symptomatic treatment of:

  •  acute and chronic inflammatory diseases of the bronchi, trachea;
  •  acute inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract, accompanied by dry cough.

Contraindications

Tusavit syrup in question is contraindicated for use in cases where the patient has severe hypersensitivity (allergy) to the main or to one of the auxiliary components, hereditary fructose / maltose intolerance.
It is contraindicated for use with high acidity, gastritis, heartburn (reflux esophagitis, gastroesophageal disease), gastric ulcer and 12 duodenal ulcer.
Do not use with a tendency to alcoholism (due to the presence of ethanol) and diabetes (due to the presence of sugar and honey).
In pediatrics, it is permissible to use it after reaching 4 years of age.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

This drug is not recommended for pregnant women – only under strict indications determined by the attending physician.
If it is necessary to take the drug during breastfeeding, lactation is suspended.

Method of administration and dosage

Tusavit syrup is taken orally, after a meal.
Recommended dosages:

  •  children aged 4 to 12 years old – 1 tsp. (5 ml) syrup 3 to 5 times a day;
  •  children over 12 years old and adults – 1-2 tsp. spoon of syrup, 6 times a day.

The drug can be diluted with a liquid before use – in sweet tea or fruit juice.
The duration of the course of treatment is 5 days, or longer (if prescribed by a doctor). Shake well before use.
Increasing the dosage will not improve the therapeutic effect, however, it can cause unwanted side effects, therefore, the recommended dosage should not be exceeded.
The faster you start taking the drug at the first sign of illness, the better the result will be.
Liver or kidney disease is not a reason to adjust the dosage, frequency, or duration of treatment.

Overdose

In case of an overdose, you may experience:

  •  nausea;
  •  abdominal pain;
  •  vomiting, diarrhea;
  •  nervous excitement.

In this case, the symptoms should be treated – rinse the stomach, take enterosorbents.

Side effects

The drug is usually well tolerated when used in the recommended doses.
Allergy may occur in case of individual intolerance. In particular, it can be observed:

  •  allergic reactions – itching, allergic urticaria, rash;
  •  shortness of breath, angioedema, Quincke’s edema;
  •  nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

If side effects appear, you should interrupt treatment and contact your doctor for help and changes in the treatment process.
