Scientific Evidence
Rivaroxaban, the active ingredient in Xarelto, is a direct Factor Xa inhibitor that selectively blocks the active site of Factor Xa. This inhibition interrupts the intrinsic and extrinsic pathway of the blood coagulation cascade, ultimately preventing thrombin formation and reducing the risk of blood clot formation.
Clinical trials such as the RECORD program have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of rivaroxaban in preventing venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery. These studies have shown that rivaroxaban is non-inferior to traditional anticoagulants like enoxaparin but with a lower risk of major bleeding events.
Additional Information
Xarelto 15 mg tablets should be stored at room temperature away from moisture and heat. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not to discontinue the medication without consulting a healthcare provider.
Patients taking Xarelto should be monitored for signs of bleeding, and the medication should be used with caution in individuals with a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or hepatic impairment.
