Balsamic liniment (according to Vishnevsky) composition
active ingredients: 1 g of the preparation contains bismuth tribromophenolate (Xeroform) (in terms of 50% bismuth oxide and dry matter) 30 mg, birch tar 30 mg;
excipients: colloidal anhydrous silicon dioxide, castor oil.

Pharmacological properties
This drug Balsamic liniment (according to Vishnevsky) is a combined antiseptic and disinfectant drug that is intended for topical use.
Shows some irritating effect on tissue receptors, has the property of accelerating regeneration processes in the epidermis, and normalizes blood circulation in the affected tissues.

Indications
It Balsamic liniment (according to Vishnevsky) is used as a medicine for local treatment:

  • purulent-inflammatory processes (abscesses, boils);
  • infected wounds;
  • trophic ulcers;
  • bedsores;
  • frostbite;
  • burns.

One of the active ingredients of the drug is purified tar (birch), which has the property of inhibiting the proliferation of epidermal cells and producing a disinfecting, antiseptic and antifungal effect.
Xeroform has astringent, antiseptic and drying properties, and is used in dermatology for diseases of the skin.

Contraindications
Not applicable if the patient has an increased sensitivity (allergy) to one of the components that make up the drug – in particular, to phenol and its derivatives.
Do not allow the drug to get on the mucous membranes. After the liniment is applied, you must wash your hands thoroughly in order to avoid getting particles of it in your eyes, nose or mouth.
In case of accidental contact of liniment on mucous membranes, immediately rinse them with water and consult a doctor as soon as possible.
Birch tar, which is part of the drug, can increase the sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, so you should avoid prolonged exposure to the sun in the summer during treatment with this drug.
In addition, the simultaneous use on the same skin areas with other drugs for external use can cause the creation of new compounds with an unforeseen effect, so caution should be exercised when using other drugs.
The safety and efficacy of this drug in children have not been studied.

Application during pregnancy and lactation
This drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy.
If such a need arose, then the attending physician should carefully weigh the decision on its use, taking into account the ratio of benefits or harm to mother and child.

Method of administration and dosage
This drug is for topical use.
For adults, apply two to three times a day, in a thin layer on the affected areas of the skin, or apply a gauze bandage over this area, folding the gauze into 5-6 layers, soaking it with liniment.
The bandage made in this way should be fixed. Change once every 2-3 days.
The duration of the treatment course – from 6 to 20 days – is determined by the attending physician, based on the course of the disease and the patient’s condition.

Overdose
An overdose of this drug has been observed and can cause some non-systemic hypersensitivity reactions, such as:

  • rash on the skin;
  • itching.

Such reactions require desensitizing therapy.
Recommended symptomatic treatment, drug withdrawal.

Side effects
When using this drug, non-systemic adverse reactions were observed, mainly hypersensitivity reactions, such as:

  • hyperemia;
  • itching;
  • skin rash;
  • hives;
  • swelling;
  • photosensitivity reactions.

If any unusual side effects occur due to the use of this drug, you should consult your doctor about possible changes in the treatment regimen.
