Purpose: Inhibits 5-alpha-reductase to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia symptoms.
Description
Duodart (dutasteride) hard capsules 0.5 mg/0.4 mg. №30 vial
Ingredients
Duodart capsules contain 0.5 mg of dutasteride and 0.4 mg of tamsulosin hydrochloride. Dutasteride inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), while tamsulosin is an alpha-blocker that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck.
Dosage
The recommended dosage of Duodart is one capsule daily, swallowed whole with a glass of water. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting a healthcare provider.
Indications
Duodart is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in adult men with an enlarged prostate. It helps to improve urinary flow, reduce the risk of acute urinary retention, and decrease the need for prostate surgery.
Contraindications
Do not take Duodart if you are allergic to dutasteride, tamsulosin, or any other ingredients in the capsules. It is also contraindicated in women and children.
Directions
Follow the directions provided by your healthcare provider for the best results. Duodart should be taken at the same time each day to maintain a consistent level of the medication in your body.
Scientific Evidence
Studies have shown that the combination of dutasteride and tamsulosin in Duodart is more effective in improving symptoms of BPH compared to either medication alone. Research published in the Journal of Urology demonstrated a significant reduction in prostate volume and improvement in urinary symptoms with this combination therapy.
Additional Information
It is important to note that Duodart may take several weeks to show its full effects, and regular monitoring by a healthcare provider is necessary to assess the response to treatment. Common side effects may include dizziness, decreased libido, and ejaculation disorders.
Pharmacologically, dutasteride inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which plays a key role in the development of BPH. By reducing DHT levels, dutasteride helps shrink the prostate gland, relieving urinary symptoms. Tamsulosin, on the other hand, works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of Duodart in improving urinary symptoms, reducing the risk of disease progression, and enhancing quality of life in men with BPH. Long-term studies have shown sustained benefits with continued use of the medication, making it a valuable treatment option for individuals with symptomatic BPH.
